lol It's not just because I'm having a boring day of homework.... This dude made my day.

Mmm just broke my fast with an almost 1k calorie meal (I'm around 1500/day) Love it :)

You are actually wrong. Or at least not right. Even huge proponents of lifting heavy have to admit that you can't completely write-off intermediate and higher repetition work. http://www.leangains.com/2010/08/high-reps-vs-low-reps-for-muscle-gain.html They cite primary literature here as well as representing the opinions…

A recent study showed that you can trigger hypertrophy by doing 60% 1RM to fatigue. The to fatigue is the hard part... I, personally, don't have the patience to make low weights go to failure.

Best picture ever taken of me was while I was dancing, a cross-eyed, runny eye liner, duck face. I wish I could find it, it's probably the single biggest crime against photos I've ever seen. Okay, I had to dig it up. I sincerely hope I don't always make that face when I dance.

^^ I do intermittent fasting because I really like to eat one or two big meals and a few little snacks, or some days like today, I literally ate all my calories in 2 big meals (with a coffee shake that barely counts separately). That's what makes me feel best!

0.74, almost exactly what it was when I was heavier too.

Think that if I'm amenorrheic I can get insurance to cover a DEXA for bone density and then sneaky-like find out my body fat? lol ETA: Someone else said they are done differently. Damn!

I have obsessive tendencies, so the problem for me is that fitness has become something of an obsession. I find myself reading about nutrition instead of what I need to read for school, and my friends sometimes get mad at how many of my conversation topics revolve around fitness.

Why settle for your eating habits being "not as unhealthy as they were before" Why not aim to do better? It's not saying that you aren't doing a great job now to say that you should keep trying to do better.

It can actually be even worse than that. There is absolutely no way to know. What I would do if I didn't have a HRM, I would use a TDEE calculator to calculate my TDEE and calculate a 20% deficit from that. Then try that for a month and if I didn't lose weight, I would adjust down by a couple hundred. Example: My TDEE is…

Avi pic is new, yeah? Lookin' hot! I am also curious, bod pod is generally cheaper and has a similar accuracy rate. You could check with research institutions to see if they need volunteers for any studies or for students to get practice, sometimes that's cheaper. Also, I've seen a groupon deal for a scan.

http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/muscle-gain/general-philosophies-of-muscle-mass-gain.html ^^ great information for someone who wants to add some mass. The above poster was correct, you want a very modest surplus, training stimulus, and you will gain a little fat too.

Nope, my scale frequently goes down by .1-.2 a day. But then some days with water weight fluctuations I'll be suddenly up or down by a lot.

I definitely don't under-value the contribution of lats, but if you have a 26 vs 29 inch waist, you would need to grow lats a lot more with the larger waist to maintain the same proportions. And I can't say for sure that ab work grows abs, but I wouldn't know any other way... lol Some of the stuff I've read says that as…

Sounds as crazy as those people that say the key to weight loss is to burn more calories than you consume.

I feel better with my current meal plans. The only thing I would change if calories didn't matter is that I would eat more and be better able to do what I want in social situations.

I'm curvy, and I have the same problem at every size. Pants that fit my butt won't fit my waist, shirts that can accommodate the girls don't come anywhere near touching my waist... One thing I have noticed though is that I used to be able to only wear clothing that defined my waist, or else I looked larger. Now, I can wear…

I read that targeted ab work could be counterproductive to your physique, depending on your goals. If you want a V-taper as a guy or an hourglass as a woman, making the abs grow, then, would make for a less defined waist. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/dont-want-ripped-time-to-shape-hourglass-body.html I do isometric ab…

Like my tummy. But I'm not telling which that is and guessing could get someone in trouble. :)

Personal trainers are usually not required to know absolutely anything about nutrition. It's probably best to do your own research and decide for yourself. Here is my ranking of diets: 1) The one that is long-term sustainable for you and a modest calorie deficit 2) Minimize processed crap and eat mostly food you make…

I thought my goal was going to be too high and I would want to go lower, but it turns out that it will probably be about right, maybe a couple pounds low. The best way to pick a weight that is right for YOU is to find out your body fat percent by calipers (or circumference if you don't want to spend a couple bucks on…

To me it looks like you could stick your butt out a bit more so that your low back is flat, or if anything, arched. Best description I've ever heard of a proper squat: Stick out your butt and go down like a stripper making money, then pull back up squeezing your butt so you don't get raped. It could just be the angle that…

@amee your eyes! Like you've got a secret...

These are my daily "indulgence" foods that are good for you :)

I feel sexiest at the gym, or when I'm sore from a gym session. I love the "I'm so sore and so sexy" swagger-limp I have going on sometimes lol

I'm surprised that they let you have soy. Luckily, my food intolerance cleared right up when I eliminated gluten and lactose. I then reintroduced gluten with no symptoms, reintroduced lactose and got tummy aches. Problem solved :) http://www.nourishingmeals.com/2010/01/elimination-and-detoxification-diet-its.html is where…

I can't find the article I wanted to cite, but basically: Any time your intake is less than your output, your metabolism takes a hit because your body wants to make them match. This should be no more than like 20%. In extreme cases, it is possible that you can be eating a very low calorie amount and maintaining because…
