  • Salter do a good range of digital scales that measure body fat % and stuff. Mine seems accurate to within 1% of the gym scales and calipers for body fat. I like digital scales because you are, in effect, calibrating them everytime you switch tehm on. And they are not as fussy about temperature variations and such.
  • Suunto watches work with a foot pod (attached to your trainers and work like a pedometer) and also a GPS pod. You won't get a gps to work indoors, certainly not with any accuracy. By indoors do you mean treadmill? If so the Suunto footpod would work, but I'd just go by the distance given on the treadmill.
  • Any idea what your body fat percentage is? My belly looks fat and bloated at times, but once I got below 21% it made a vast difference. How do you manage on low carbs? Do you preload before the race/distance days?
  • Change it then! If it really "does your head in" that much why not change it? Maybe ask why you crave chocolates or cakes or whatever, and why you binge on them at the weekend? People say at work it's easy because of their routine. Why not stick to the same routine at the weekend - eat at the same times/same sorts of meals…
  • Whilst having a little of what you fancy isn't a bad thing in a sustainable diet, if you don't have stuff such as chocolates in the house you won't be able to eat them, try having an apple instead if you get a sugar craving. Why not make your own pizza on the weekend? It is something that you can look forward to doing? I…
  • Couldn't you have just told him that you didn't want to eat tuna for lunch everyday and discussed an alternative option?
  • LOL. I'd just count it as a cheat day
  • Mines at 48 seated resting. Guess it will be a bit lower at true rest (in bed on waking). That has come down from 59 a year and a half ago. It is a good thing, means your heart is working less hard to keep you ticking over :)
  • Ouch. I've only done it once but kickboxing is tough!
  • Good to see the plan is working, there are some good improvement here. Think I'll be back at week one when I start again, might give it a go next week. Keep it up all, wondering who our first 100 will be?
  • Is that the same brain that gets you to being 50lbs, 100lbs, 200lbs+ overweight in the first place?
  • Not disagreeing with you. But loads of folk get asked teh same thing/bashed for having too low calories. MFP DOES set them at this and it takes a lot of reading and understanding to have the courage to move up/away from it.
  • As above though, I got stuck around the 78kgs mark after loosing 14kgs. Changed mfps goals to loose 1lb a week and am loosing weight again. Remember, you won't put on weight by upping your goal, so long as it remains in a deficit.
  • Because MFP sets it as this if you are sedentry and want to loose 2lbs a week.
  • Having completed my second day of fasting yesterday I find it very interesting to read some of the dismissive comments from people who haven't actually tried it. I decide to try IF for four weeks rather than dismiss it without trying it. Having read quite a lot about it, and about fasting in general (journals and academic…
  • I'd recommend a mountain bike or hybrid bike for starting out. Fatter tyres mean you can get a greater volume of air in them and they will be less likely to pinch flat. Also the lower gearing may be beneficial to start with. You could go cheap and replace when you've lost some weight (ie sell it and get a proper road bike)…
  • What do you think? Jeez there are some tetchy folk on here! To the OP - your daughters off to a great start and has a great role-model. Keep up the good work.
  • I take a multi vitamin and mineral everyday with a meal. Best take it with a meal for your body to absorb the vits and mins from it. Figure they are cheap, can't hurt (at one a day) and are there if my body needs them. Also makes up for days when I might be lacking something in my diet. Obviously they are a SUPPLEMENT…
  • I think she should be on at least 2500 calories, lifting HEAVY 4 days a week, and doing zero cardio. It's the ONLY way she's going to grow up with a beach body. At 1100 calories you are setting here up for failure. She will have no energy, her hair will fall out, she will loose any muscle she may have been born with and…
  • I had exactly the same, 8-10mins in. Slow the pace a little, and definiately slow your breathing. I can (could) run an hour now instead of 15mins. If I warm-up at home with some bodyweight exerices and suc, then run too fast at the start (sprint down the hill at teh end of my street), I get the stitch again.
  • Wow, there's so much rubbish in this thread it's hard to find the good advice! For those saying he's not qualified to give you nutritional advice, you don't know what qualifications he has. More than many here judging by some of the answers above. I am glad I'm not your PT though, or anyones PT to be honest! You sound very…
  • Try googling for "eating for your metabolism type". I've just been reading this today and it's very interesting. It's worth the reading.
  • Chicken kebab. Just found this last week! Chicken breast, pitta, salad, and a bit of garlic mayo/chilli sauce. Yummy, and less than half the cals and sats of a donner kebab or pizza :) Otherwise, fish and chips are better than pizza in terms of macros.
  • Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I am going to try and get a referal on Thursday, but it'll take ages for it to come through. Walking does hurt, but I can't rest from that really. Might be worth trying using a stick to take some weight off? (I have hiking sticks). I'm not doing a lot, just the minimum around…
  • I had a pain whilst running. Ignored it for two weeks (ran on snow or grass) and it's finally just had enough I think. It's not the worst pain I've had, but enough to make me stop and think now. It's never going to heal if I keep stressing it so just need to rest/avoid impact. Gutted to be honest as my running was coming…
  • Well unfortunately I'm out for a while :( I have a stress fracture of my femur and it's hurting more than it was three weeks ago. Just tried push ups and it makes it worse. I thought it was a muscle injury but now it's looking like a stress fracture. Probably shouldn't have been trying to run through it! I have had a weeks…
  • The OP didn't ask about getting the ultimate body, they asked about loosing fat. You can loose significant body fat with the correct diet and cardio.
  • Why reluctantly? Most people would love to have the help of someone so close.
