Ok..so much research! And so much trial and error with this damn PCOS!

I've been researching the use of DIM in assisting with hormones and helping with PCOS. Does anyone have any success (or horror!) stories?

I've tried inositol, but as I was travelling, there were too many variables to know if it actually made difference. I definitely didn't lose weight, but again...travelling.. This means some (or many) poor food choices, alcohol consumption etc. Not conclusive to losing weight haha

So i've just purchased DIM, and will take 100mg per day. It is supposed to aid in metabolising and ridding the body of bad oestrogen, thus hopefully helping to balance my hormones.

I'm currently reading up on vitex (aka chaste berry) too, which seems like it will work well in conjunction with the DIM, as quite often those of us with PCOS are low in progesterone, and this herb is supposed to help.

I'm not a health expert, so i'm not saying any of this will work for you (please do your own research!), but i'm going to give it a go for myself....Something will work, eventually! I'm not trying to conceive, I just want to balance my hormones and get my life back! And hopefully stop the reverse the weight gain, hair loss and irregular periods!

Has anyone used the above supplements? With success? Or have you seen positive results with any other supplements?

Feel free to share stories here, or PM me!

:)

I use DIM with Vitex, inositol, a progestin boosting herbal, and an insulin control herbal.

I'm seeking the advice of an Naturopathic DR (ND) and we've been slowly for the last 8 months adjusting the herbal supplements that I'm taking as my symptoms improve/are revealed. Here is a brief description of the path we took to get to where I am now.

My initial appointment she put me on inositol and a supplement called testoquench (my testosterone levels are very high). My weight responded very favorably to this combination, but I wasn't cycling properly yet, and I was having bad symptoms of estrogen dominance. (Crazy PMS symptoms basically, and hormonal weight gain/water retention.)

At this point we dropped the testoquench, added the DIM with Vitex. This is when I started cycling normally, as well most of my PMS issues diminished, however my weightloss slowed at this point, as well I was still having hormonal weight gain.

Step three was we added a supplement called Insinase from Metagenics. This is supposed to assist with your insulin levels. (I got ill in this time and didn't feel that I had a good test of this supplement, as I dropped it several times to eliminate it as a cause.) I still wasn't losing much and was experiencing hormonal weight gain.

Step four, we added a progestin booster supplement. At this point I started to see small losses again as well as most of my symptoms (other than my crazy hair issues) have gone away.

I typed all this out so you can see the process that you may need to go through to find the right combination of herbal supplements that work for you. Each one of us are different and may need a different combination of herbals to treat and correct our PCOS. I'm very happy with the advice and direction of my ND. However with the assistance of the internet, and groups like this one, I think you maybe able to do your research and find what works for you on your own.

Good luck, and keep trying to find what helps you!

I have used inositol for a year or so, Vitex for the last 6 months and this last cycle was the first one where i had NO pms, acne or bloating. I dont have any blood work back yet but for me, this is a win.

I've never heard of these; guess I do need to do some research! ;)
