I've always been a data junkie to a certain degree, but found this easy effort run last night very informative. I like to run via HR effort and keep my HR about 10-15 BPM below my steady state of 160 on easy runs. We had a stiff 25mph sustained South wind with gusts of upto 45mph last night. My first 3 miles or so were into this wind and the last 3 mile or so with it directly to my back. The first part of the run is gently rolling downhill with the return gently uphill. Miles 3 and 6 have similar heartrate data but i was able to run 1:00 per mile faster uphill at the same effort. This course I run about 3-4 times a week and typically run about :15 per mile faster down than up with my HR typically not anywhere near where it was last night. At times I felt like I was running my my 5 year old strapped to my back.

I've seen this same effect at the beach.
