Challenge: Let's Eat Local

Before summer takes its final bow and we usher in cooler temperatures, let's take some time this week to enjoy one of the best parts of summer-- the bountiful and delicious fruits and vegetables that are so abundant this time of year. I think the best tasting produce is found locally from our farmer's markets, roadside stands, and CSA farms (Community Supported Agriculture). There's just nothing like it. Foods picked at the peak of freshness. Yum!

No doubt many of you are also local foods enthusiasts. So this week, let's up our game a bit. Let's make local foods the star of a few meals this week. Let's grab a few favorites, try some new things, and just enjoy the delicious foods grown in our neighborhoods and communities.

And if you've been meaning to pick something up from a farmer's market or roadside stand but just hadn't gotten around to it yet, this is the week!

This Week's Challenge: Whether its fruits and vegetables, locally produced meats, cheeses, or other foods, let's make locally grown foods the centerpiece of a few meals this week. Enjoy!

Wednesday Check-in: Look for the updates post this Wednesday. Please post any frustrations, suggestions, or questions you may have for our group. We can all learn from each other!

Make it a great week!

I totally believe in buying local. My state is a rough place for farmers to make a living. The state is not friendly to agriculture, and housing has replaced much of the farmland that surrounds the Los Angeles area. So, if I can buy yummy food and help keep a few more California farms growing fruit and veggies instead of urban sprawl, I'm all for it. I love the Farmer's Market. I'm lucky to live in Southern California because fresh produce is available all year long although this time of year, the Farmers Market absolutely overflows with more than anyone could possibly eat. That's a beautiful harvest, @77tes. I think it's wonderful you can get fresh produce year round.

And we do appreciate that California feeds much of the rest of the US. Where would we be without California produce?

Great post @77tes . Here in FL the same thing is happening. In 20 year we will be out of farmland.

I will need to do some digging and check out local markets this week. See what I can find. Here in FL we have plenty to choose from.
