How long should a maxi-dress be?

Or I guess, how short can it be? I'm 5'9" and wear a small or medium dress so they fit a little short...

    I only own one maxi dress, and mine is to my ankles. I noticed stores like Victoria's Secret have started selling them in different lengths, now.

    Ankle length is really nice because you don't step on the dress while walking so easily as longer floor length dresses do.

    ankle length i think long but can still show off your shoes ;)

    though being not the tallest of people i favour by default the mega long should probably have it taken up a bit length for myself as it means i dont have to break the sewing machine out .... :D lol
