P90X - Ab Ripper X

When losing weight, I started at 300 pounds and plateaued around 200 pounds. I finally decided to step it up and do something about it. I did P90X and it did wonders to my body. I went from 200 pounds down to my current weight of 170 pounds. It wasn't always easy starting out, especially with the plyometrics, but I worked through it and it ultimately got much easier. The only thing I was not able to accomplish in the program was Ab Ripper X. My tailbone hurt so much just after a few of the workouts which caused me to stop. I suppose in losing as much weight as I did, I just lost whatever fat protected it before. Does anyone else have this issue or something similar? Any recommendations? I have from time to time picked a P90X day workout at random, bit now I am ready to go at it again for another 90 strait days.

are you working out on hardwood/laminate floors or carpet?
I just replaced the carpet in my house with laminate floors and noticed that my back (lower back esp) hurt more when I was doing Ab Ripper. I just bought another yoga mat and doubled up on them and haven't had any more issues.
The only other think I can think of is your tailbone/lower back is injured/weak.
Congrats on the weight loss though! That is amazing in itself!0 -
I also do it on a carpeted surface. It doesn't hurt my tailbone, but holy crap it hurts my hip bones when I have to do the moves where you lay on one side. The core synergistics has a move too where you lay on your side and push up to work abs. I try my best but I'm kind of boney so it hurts big time! I was wondering if anyone else had that problem!0

I have carpet flooring. I don't know about weak or injured, but I have no problem sitting (though that depends on my sitting position) and riding a bicycle is no issue. I have tried a pillow or a towel under me and I can still feel it hurting. I suppose I can give the yoga mat a try. I noticed that they sold them in different thickness levels so I will go the thicker route. The funny thing is that I always had trouble with the yoga part of P90X so maybe the mat will help. Thank you for your suggestion.
stephdg89: I have the same issue with my hip bone when doing the P90X Side Tri-Rise exercise, though it is somewhat more bearable unlike my tailbone when doing Ab Ripper X.0 -
For me it feels like I am sitting on a bone and it hurts!!!! I find the froggies and the very last set to be the hardest for me. I use a yoga mat, on carpet, and it still hurts. I have to play with the angle of my bottom, and adjust the cheeks. Sometimes I get in the right position immediately, sometimes I can't figure it out. Very frustrating.0

Seems like I am not the only one then. Does anyone else have any recommendations?0

hmmm, do you have like a somewhat flat pillow you could sit on. One that has enough padding to help but not so big and fluffy that you are trying to balance on the pillow too.0
