Has hooping helped you to lose weight?

Hooping hasn't directly helped me to lose weight, but it has got me outside and active on sunny days, which tends to lead into walking or cycling further afield. It definitely stretches out my mid-section abs and back!

It's hard to find adult-sized hula hoops in NZ, so I've made my own out of flexible garden piping and duck tape. The flexible hoop takes a lot more 'oomph' keep it going.

Anybody else made their own hoops?

    Hi everyone !

Well, hooping has definetely helped me lose inches more so than weight ! I am down 4" off my waist , hips and bust. I started hooping in May and have become hooked ! I took a crash-course class then expanded further by taking private lessons ! I am hoping to become a certified instructor this year :)

I purchased my hoops through www.hoopnotica.com.I have a travel hoop as well as a few others adult hoops. I also have the Beginner Dvds (Level 1 & 2) that has helped me tremendously with my hooping skills. If you have any questions, msg me or friend me or ask away. I am willing to share with you what I know.

    Happy Hooping !

I've been making my own hoops and having so much fun doing it. Does anyone know where I can find the 'push button coupling' that the travel hoops are made from?

I've been practicing chest hooping for 3 weeks. Last night it finally clicked! I ended up chest hooping for about 2 hours bc I just couldn't stop. I was afraid I'd forget how to do it. LOL - I went right to my hoop this morning! I didn't forget. I'm so excited about being able to chest hoop!

I found a fantastic link on you tube last night to learn chest hooping. If anyone wants the link, let me know. I'll be happy to post it.

I've been making my own hoops. I use 160psi 3/4" irrigation tubing found at Lowe's. (Home Depot is a bit more expensive) I buy the 100 foot roll.
  • Yes, please post the link. I just can't seem to get chest hooping yet. Thanks!

New to the group - hello! I have been hooping for years, so I'm not sure if it has helped me lose weight, but I do log the calories when I hoop and it seems to be working for me. I have 3 homemade hoops of various weights/thicknesses that are homemade. Most of them I've had for awhile & I just order some new, fun tape when they get worn.

I've never done DVDs, I've learned from friends and people I've bugged at shows - like "Hi, you don't know me, but can you teach me that cool thing you just did?" :) I have no shame. I do watch you tube videos on occasion. I just learned how to bump the hoop up from my knees back to my waist that way, but not without plenty of bruises on my knees.

Ok here is the link: First let me say, I've been corrected that this is called 'shoulder hooping.' Either way, it helped me get that movement of my chest. It was so plain and clear for me that it clicked right away. I hope it helps!
    Let me know!

It is so addicting for me! I'm not good but, I'm learning and each day gets better.

Any tips you can offer would be appreciated!

It was me, who suggested the site.

I have the Beginner Level 1 which teaches you basic moves...waist, hip, halos, corkscrews, floating, passing. The Level 2 dvd goes further with shoulder, chest, etc...

FYI- You can purchase them off amazon.com for a cheaper price.

How long can you hula hoop for, I'm a beginner and can manage only a few rotations. I suppose it just takes practice. It certainly works up a sweat.

When I first started hooping, it took me a few days to get the hoop to stay up. Then everything clicked, now I can hoop for an hour or so non-stop doing various moves. Sometimes, I hoop while watching TV. Be sure to learn to hoop in the opposite direction too, it keeps everything more eve.

The bigger the hoop, the slower is goes around. The smaller the hoop, the faster is goes. Those plastic hoops don't work well for adults.

Gosh, I hadn't thought of doing it the other way around, I'll give it a go once I have mastered it.
