Last summer I decided I wanted a new hobby, so I picked up a basic hybrid bike from the Academy sporting goods store. I loved in and rode until it started getting cold. I decided to pick it back up a few months ago as an alternative to running (I ran a lot, but it's a little hard on my knees) and fell in love with biking again. This time, though, I figured I would stick to it, and two weeks ago decided it was time for an upgrade. I bought a Raleigh Capri 3.0 road bike from my LBS, got fitted and I love it! My longest ride on my old bike was only about 30 miles. Hopefully I can start upping my distance now that i have something a little lighter. :D

I've read through all the posts in the group trying to pick up anything I can. I have a helmet, of course, gloves, some dri-fit heat gear shirts, padded shorts, clipless shoes, chamois cream, a spare tube, allen wrenches, a bike rack for my car, and I've started using the Strava app. I've been going on short rides to get used to the drop handles and Look pedals and I've been practicing my handling and cornering without abusing my brakes, lol.

Any tips of the trade, advice, etc? You guys are all awesome, btw!

All you need now is time in the saddle.

That is the fun part.

Yup. You are setting the hook!! :)
Just be aware...time on the bike = the more you love it = the more you will do it = the more you will want to be better at it = the fitter you will get = the more you will want to upgrade...
    More addictive than anything!!

Also make sure you are doing solid research regarding proper nutrition relating to the kinds of rides you are doing.

I am jealous. New to biking and riding a hybrid. I love my bike but now also want a road bike. Your list of accessories was great. I added lights to the front and back of my bike to increase my visibility even for daytime riding. I like the flashing modes. I also wear a bright yellow jersey. They seem the most visible. Have fun on the rivet.
  • Congrats on the new bike and all the extras too. Its another world in the road bike seen. Good luck and be safe out there.
