I have yet to sign up with a gym because I thought I'd save myself some $$ by going for walks outside until winter hits. What's the best gym around? Do you think you get all the equipment you need for the $$ you spend on a membership? I haven't done much research yet so maybe someone can help me skip over some of the foot work
Happy Hump Day!!

I didn't join a gym. I don't like gyms. I don't like how much they charge and some are really crowded.
.
I don't think you need much equipment. We bought a (cheap) treadmill which is great because it got me started and we still use it. We also have a (cheap) stationary bike which is ok but we only bought so we can do cardio at the same time. As well as a home gym (cheap) which was a waste of money. You really don't need that! Strength training on machines is not a great idea. I found that out after we bought it unfortunately.
Anyways, what I am trying to say is that apart from the threadmill for some cardio in winter, all you need is your body. Look into some bodyweight exercises and maybe some DVDs for fun.
That's just my opinion.0 -

I have spent the money on a couple gyms and not been as pleased as I thought I would be. I do like the fact they have a ton of things that you definitely wouldn't have at home but with the added problem of the gyms often being busy or the station you want to use hasn't been cleaned by the last person to use it so you have to clean it to use it and then again when you're done.
I prefer bringing the gym home and if you have enough space and tools you can have a friend over to work out with you or go for a run instead. I haven't spent a fortune on gym stuff at home but I can get a decent workout anyways. I also get to start P90X on Monday, hope it doesn't kill me haha.0 -
My personal preference is World Health Club. It's for more "middle of the road" folks - those who don't take themselves too seriously but don't just want to stand around and check themselves out in the mirrors. Lots of classes, great trainers and I like the attitude of most of the staff at my location (Richmond). Edgemont Club has a few more options, like a pool and racketball, but it's also a little bit pricier.
I know lots of folks say that they can do just as much at their house, but I hit the treadmills 4 times a week at the gym but can't seem to force myself to use the one I have in the basement.0
