*Julian Bakery apparently makes excellent super soft breads. My best friend loved them. She said the most moist bread was the coconut gluten free. The Almond one is high in calories but tasty and soft. The Carb Zero is a little dry and super low in calories.

Udi's Breads are a bit dry - ok toasted.
Pizza is amazing

*I've tried their crackers. These will replace those saltines if you miss them. :)
*Pasta isn't bad

Deboles is my favorite for pastas.

My favorite bread crumbs is the original gluten free Gillian's. I've found them in Whole Foods and lots of other places. These make amazing crispy pork chops or anything else breaded. I've tried some others that were odd.

Van's makes fantastic gluten free waffles. I love these. They are so good.

Nature's Path also makes really great waffles. I particularly love their buckwheat waffles. Buckwheat is NOT wheat. It's more like Rhubarb.

If you like Asian cooking, San-J is great for gluten free sauces.

Pamela's Products has great pancake batter. Make sure you let it sit for a bit though to get it fluffy before pouring it into the griddle. Their brownies are to die for!

http://www.arrowheadmills.com/
Arrowhead Mills makes a great All Purpose Gluten Free Mix. Be sure to read the label! They also produce non-gluten free baking mixes.

http://www.bobsredmill.com/
They produce great flours. I don't like their preprepared bread mixes but then again - I don't like most of the ones out there.
They do have gluten free oats that are grown in specific gluten free fields.

Breads from Anna - My best bud swears by their banana bread. She says it's amazing. Unfortunately, I'll need to special order it. I'm going to start pestering my local supplier.

Thanks so much for the post! It's good to know lots of different types of brands out there.

One of the brands of bread I like is Rudi's multigrain.
    http://www.rudisglutenfree.com/gluten-free-bread/products/

It stays in the freezer and I toast it. I can usually find it at Costco so I get two loaves at a time, but sometimes I can find it at Stop and Shop too. You do have to check labels though because they make some non-gluten free stuff too.

There's also a local place called It's Only Natural that sells a lot of gluten free products as well. One of the better brands they sell is Glutino

    http://www.glutino.com/

Their cake mixes and cookies are really good. So are some of their pizza dinners. I am not a fan of their breakfast cereal bars though- they have an odd after taste.

Please check the calorie count in the gluten free breads... Some is per slice and others is for 2 slices...

You guys would love the Livwell Sultana Scones I found the other day. Whole food started carrying Livwell and boy are these good. They are filled with raisins and sweet. It's like 180 calories for one but I cut it in half and toast it a little and put some butter and yum......I feel like I'm cheating. They also make something called a crumpet which is like an English Muffin but it's spongy like angel food cake. I keep waiting for them to order more as Whole Foods ran out of them. They aren't bad in calories either and I can have two in a meal without going overboard. You need to watch out for their seeded rolls or white rolls! Those have way too many calories. It's like 500 which is not good. Now, if your cheating and are making a massive hamburger on the fourth of July...than maybe I'd say go for it. For the diet impaired...where we have limits...avoid them. Those rolls are nuts in calories. But, the scones and crumpets are great. I do like their sandwich bread as it's soft and spongy but they keep running out!!!!

    Monica,
You may yet prefer the Livwell bread if you don't mind the extra calories, extra carbs, and lack of fiber. You'll have to let me know once you try the coconut bread.

Hmm. I can't wait to try it. I told my sister to check and see if it's got the same consistency. If yes, she's to buy me two loaves. Either way, to keep my allergies at bay it's not bad to have some variety. Also, they don't consistently bring in the Livwell loaves so I'm stuck at times with no bread for sandwiches unless they get a new shipment.

So Whole Foods is a good place to get GF foods? We have not had one in Knoxville - I really only shop at Earthfare (and the farmer's market!), but all of a sudden all these stores are opening here that we've never had! Trader Joe's, Publix, Whole Foods and Costco! Trader Joe's and Publix are already open, but I haven't been in yet - are those any good?

    @ morning glory

Trader Joe's has some GF products but they are mixed in with all the other products -- no separate section like some other supermarkets -- so you have to just read labels like crazy until you find the things that you want/like.

I can get a variety of decent frozen fish there, different frozen veges that I can't get at my other grocery stores (like asaparagus spears or artichokes), lots of nuts and dried fruits, snack foods, sometimes a few GF baking mixes that are okay, and a good variety of nice produce even though my TJ's is on the small side. Lots of good condiments and sauces, too. They focus on environmentally friendly products so they don't carry mainstream paper goods or detergents or toiletries, so unless that's a good match for you, you might need to make at least one other grocery store stop to get everything you need.

TJ's has some good stuff in it, but as mentioned previously, it's mixed in with everything else. Whole Foods has a better selection of GF foods (in my opinion). However, lately I've been able to buy my gluten free bread at Costco. It's the Rudi's and they keep it in with the frozen food. I like it because I get two loaves for $2-$3 more than I get one loaf at another store. They sell out quick though!

If you live in the Northwest, Fred Meyer's has a good selection of gluten-free stuff. I hate the brown rice and tapioca breads they have in their natural section but they also carry Udi's products. I actually like Udi's breads, although Rudi's is good too. I don't eat bread a lot so I just keep it in the freezer and use as necessary. I'm also quite addicted to spaghetti but I'm really picky about my noodles. Safeway's "Eating Right" noodles are serviceable but the best ones I've found are Mrs. Leeper's organic corn noodles, available at QFC. I'm a college student so obviously, finding a good price is a really big priority as well as a good taste.

Whole Foods has a lot of gluten free foods in their selections. You can find it in the frozen sections, boxed, grains...everywhere. You can even find it in their bread sections and they even make gluten free breads. I've managed to get gluten free soy sauce and other oriental possibilities. It's where I find most of my odd stuff. They've really been on the band wagon in my area. Granted, we've got one of their BIG stores so it depends on the size. I get my Julian's bread crumbs from them.

Trader Joe's also has some great selections. I'm waiting for mine to open up as they are building it. I have friends who buy foods and cereals from them and they have gluten free for very low prices.

Publix is starting to carry some things like waffles and premixes for pancakes but they don't have a ton. You have to look and see if they have a healthy food section. It's tougher to find stuff in their stores that's grain related. Honestly, I barely consider them. I see them more like a store to pick up gluten free waffles if I'm running low. Their produce is good though and I buy that there a lot.

Costco actually does have some gluten free stuff. We had one opened recently and I bought breakfast style nut bars by Mrs. May's. I saw some gluten free greek wraps and their deli meats are gluten free (can't remember the brand but they were good). Anyway, yes - you can find gluten free items in their warehouse store. I love the freeze dried fruits by Kirkland and they are great for packing a low cal lunch snack for the afternoon. Is it a gluten free bonanza? No. But, you can find items there that are worth the visit.

Believe it or not betty crockers gluten free mixes are pretty darn good , easy to find at most grocery stores near me and really inexpensive. Whole foods carries a brand called moondance (in the bakery dept) and their cookie bars and wedding cookies are phenomenal. Unfortunately not much on my favorites list will help me deal with my doughy self but theyre a treat to work towards.

Thanks for the good info. I've not been able to find any gluten-free Rudi's unless it disappears before I get to the stores. I've tried Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Meijer's and Woodman's in my area. All the Rudi's are organic, but not gluten-free. I'll keep looking. Udi's works for me. As soon as it cools down, I'm going to try a couple of the bread mixes I bought. I hope they work because the breads are very expensive.

So thanks for all the ideas!

    Some of my favs -

Best pizza dough ever is the "Chebe" Pizza dough. They have other mixes that are pretty good, too.

I love Glutino products - except for their frozen pizzas. Try their pretzels for sure!

I love nut thin crackers. Pecan with brie cheese on top - delicious! (Trader Joes carries the individual portion sizes of cheese!)

Cup4Cup flour from Williams Sonoma is spendy, but worth it!!

I've been gluten-free (or trying and getting better all the time) since April of this year. It hasn't stopped me from losing weight--I've lost 10 lbs--but it is more challenging. You can do it!::happy:

As long as you enter the calories and make sure you're following your diet you should be fine. Gluten free products are higher in calories so you need to make sure you think through your breakfast meal. Basically, eat one waffle and have some protein. The danger involves gluten free high sugar products that are pre-prepared. Those have lots of sugar.

Vans are perfectly fine for breakfast.

    http://canyonbakehouse.com/gluten-free/bakery-products.html

They recently started carrying this line of gluten free products at Whole Foods called Canyon Bakehouse. They are really, really good. I had the seven grain bread and am enjoying it. I also tried the raisin bread and it was good.

If you're desperate for a hamburger bun, theirs is good and low in calories which is a miracle. It's soft. It's a little plain but if you're home cooked burger has tons of stuff like tomatoes and banana peppers - or whatever - you won't even notice. The calories on it were 200 calories for one bun. Considering I've seen up to 400 calories in other brands, this was amazing!

Has anyone tried the Udi's gluten free english muffins? I splurged the other day and bought english muffins and my grocery had Food for Life and Udi's. The FFL looked the most "normal" so I opted for them...I'm not impressed. :( They are OK but not great. I read online that Glutino's are really good but I can't find them anywhere.
