OK, so I started the year off great, dropped 50 lbs in about 5 months, then bam, nothin, nadda. I've been flat for a couple months trading back and forth with the same 1-2 lbs. So this site is confusing.. based on all the junk floating around I don't know if Im not eating enough, or are eating too much.

A lot of ppl shout if you're working out you better be eating 3k calories or you'll die! Many of these people seem to be younger / already fit people, and I might understand in those cases. A lot of others say thats BS, eat at a very low calorie rate, dont eat back exercise and it'll still work out, especially if you're still obese.

In my case, I'm averaging between 1700 and 2000 a day. On exercise days it might slip up to ~2100. I exercise about 4-5 times a week for 1 hour... 20 - 30 minutes on weights and 30 - 45 minutes on stationary bike (hill mode, avg HR ~ 145).

So my question is... For people 'like us' what's been your experience? Am I setting my goal too low or too high?

-edit - sorry, might need some details eh?

37 yo
sw 297
cw 247
gw 200 - 210

sites like fat2fit say I should be above 2700 but that really doesnt seem right.

I've was at 1740 when I started and I was 265 then, now I'm down to 1600 and I'm at 235. I change the % of which food I eat based on my phase on P90x, I go from 60% carbs to 50% protein at times.

Also I eat when I'm hungry, and the biggest thing I learned to do since I joined MFP is to only eat to the point of being not hungry rather than eating to the point of being full.

Rome was not built in a day brother. But when you hit those plateaus doesn't hurt to change it up on your body, be it a new exercise or a change up on the amount you are eating up or down just to keep your body on it's feet metaphorically.

Try changing the foods that you are eating. If you eat the same thing every day your body will adjust. Also, I find that if I change my workout routines and times that can often shoot me out of a plateau. If you normally work out in the evening, get up in the morning before work for a week and see if that helps. Also, try some different excercises. I had been doing the same treadmill and weights routine for several months, then I added in some biking. Now I am on P90X. As Tony Horton says it is all about muscle confusion.

I have similar goals to you. I eat about 2600 calories a day before exercise. I eat back my exercise calories. I lose weight. It's not fast, but it comes off. My philosophy towards this whole thing is I don't intend to eat in a way that I don't see myself sustaining for five years. If I am always hungry, then I will change how I eat. If I am happy with my food intake, and I still lose weight, than I am doing just fine.
