Apart from the standard Woolworths options, anyone else have options/restaurants/shops that surprised you with healthy food options?

Pick n Pay has a lot of health foods, I get most of my stuff from them. I also like Dischem it has a lot as well especially stuff that's hard to find at larger stores like PnP, Spar and Checkers. Clicks has some good things, but not a wide variety. Also in PE there's a vegetarian centre in Newton Park, to get stuff like tofu and their prices are also good. Also Dischem and Fruit and Veg is a walking distance from it so that's a plus. I don't shop at Woolworths for food (only clothes) because I find their things are ridiculously over priced.0

Unfortunately SA is still kind of slow with healthy foods but nandos is definitely the best bet for fast food, expensive tho. And yeah in PE you would like valley harvest, good food, pretty healthy too0

There is also the Kuaui (spelling?) chain. In PE I love Westville Deli in Walmer for meat as they specialise in game so ostrich and springbok and kudu, etc. Game is healthier for us and the environment than beef. I also love being able to get fresh fish from the harbour. fresh stuff is always healthier than frozen...0

I love Kauai! Pity the closest branch to me is over 45 minutes' drive :frown:0

Last night I decied on Woolworths Ostrich sausage for supper. Hit the floor when i picked up the macros on MFP. After reading the label more carefully which clearly states ".......boerewors spices" I settled for chiclen salad. Crazy about ostrich and venison but I will stick to Pick n Pay Klein Karoo brand.
Moral of the story.......ALWAYS read the label carefully, even the healthy options!0 -
I love Nando's and eat there at least once a week but they are so expensive. Woolies has great snacks which helps because I am constantly looking for healthy snacks that are not fruit or veggies.
My go-to is provita with tuna, low fat laughing cow wedge (only one per 4 provita, ) and sliced cucumber on top. Or just provita and low fat cottage cheese. I am really learning to love provita which i never cared for before.0 -
When it comes to buying healthy food, I swear by Woolworths. Even their sweets are healthy. They are a bit expensive, but well worth it.
When it comes to takeaways, Nandos is the best. Firstly, their chicken is grilled instead of fried. Best and healthiest way to cook any kind of meat. And they always offer salad. Their chips are also the healthier low fat ones. They do taste good by the way, not like oven baked chips. Simply fish is also good. They give you the option of fried or grilled fish. Of course I always go for grilled. There's also the option of chips, rice or salad. I alternate, depending on my mood.0 -
I don't really have the budget for Woolies. I have started making my own ready meals and freezing them. One of my favourites is Chicken, Broccoli and Cheese Sauce One decent portion for me is about 330 cals :happy:0

I just keep a look out for the foundation logo when I'm shopping those foods are usually very healthy and can be found at all the large realtors.0

I'm super impressed with Spur and Debonairs' websites and the thorough nutritional information provided! Makes life a whole lot easier!0

Most places have healthy food options if you're willing to make slight changes ( eg no chips, have veg or salad instead/ hold the sauce) and all supermarkets sell healthy food, but not if you're meaning the precooked, microwave stuff. Have you read the labels on that junk?.0
