Love it!

I usually go once a week to the local ally for a $12 all you can bowl 3 hour special. In that time I usually throw 20-25 games, and kill 700-900 calories doing so! Excellent way to get your burn on!

To keep bowling on topic, what does everyone use at the lanes?

For me, I use these
Main ball (pending on lane condition)
neXus Pearl
neXXus black & red

Right side multi-pin spare ball
Brunswick Anaconda

10-Pin Conversion
Old Ebonite plastic ball from 2001 lol

League bowler since age 12. Currently in a women's league Wednesdays. 3 games. 33 weeks a year. I think I average around 300 calories burned. My favorite night of the week!

My main ball is a Brunswick Slingshot 14lbs, Spare ball is Columbia 300 Scout 12lbs.

I just started league bowling over the summer. Never bowled serious before April this year...in fact never had anything other then a plastic ball that i used. Taught myself how to throw 2 finger and got pretty good with it. Finished the Summer league with a 170 avg, 247 high game and 647 series (also won the award for individual league points). So far this season through 2 weeks, I'm at a 179 avg. Lookin to get my avg around a 190 before the season is up, and 200 by the end of the Summer league next year so I can enter the PBA

Ah, nice! My high average is a 160 but I'm usually hovering around 140.. I'm overly consistent which is probably why I have never bowled a 200! Ticks me off, that's my goal every year but my highest games have never been over 198. :/ Anyway, I consider myself more of a skill bowler than score bowler. I can't bowl a 200 game but I can pick up most splits.

I started bowling in Jr high and have usually been in a league most of the 50-odd years since then except for my college years. I've averaged as high as mid-190s and am currently trying to be near 180. I enjoy the nights out with the guys, but also have enjoyed mixed leagues with my wife until she decided to stop. Tonight's my first night since last spring so it will interesting to see what I do. I'm currently using 4-5 year old Storm (forgot its name, but it smells like a pina colada - not sure why they wanted scented bowling balls) and use a Columbia 300 white dot for my 6 & 10 pins.

I've been a bowler for over 35 years, since I was 8. Worked at a pro shop in my twenties. Ate, drank and slept bowling for many years.

The last 10 years or so I haven't been as active, and with weight gain, got to the point where after 3 games my back ached something furious.

I had ballooned up to 315 lbs, and not being able to bowl without pain was one of the things that made me focus on weight loss. I incorporated bowling into my routine of gentle exercise (with golf & walking). In January I bowled 40 games, 60 in February, and over 80 in March & April. Then I started playing golf a bit more, but still bowled a summer league + 3-4 games practice per week. I love going Monday mornings on my day off, $1.50 a game in a mostly empty center.

Best of all, when I was bowling those many dozens of games a month, I regained the form & scoring level I had as a teen. Made me to happy that I still had potential.

First time out last night since last spring and was a little worried. Fortunately, it seemed natural to me and was able to get close to my closing avg (182, 185, 180 - pretty consistent!). I am 20-30 lbs lighter, don't know if that had anything to do with it.. It wasn't long ago that bowling felt unnatural so I struggled and avg'd in the low 170s. My passion during the good weather is still golf. I try to get out for 2 18 hole rounds a week when work (I cut my hours down to 30/week a couple years ago) doesn't get in the way. Even if I ride a cart around, MFP indicates I'm burning calories. I hope to do as well on the alley's next week.
  • I try not to worry about the score and routinely bowl about ten games each time I go to the bowling alley. My highest game is 167, but I only started in July after a 20 yr. break from the game (I was always a poor bowler back then). What changed? I think I've gotten a lot more coordinated because my job is very physically demanding, and I've also gotten more confident. Also, since I was an awful bowler, it never seemed fun. But now that I can see my average climbing, I think, "Hey, I can do at least this well and maybe better next time!"

I think when I get my own ball I will improve a little, too.

Also, it's hard for me to find videos on technique that are geared toward left-handed people; I have to reverse everything. I am getting pretty good at picking up spares, though. I have no idea how to hook a ball, but I have heard that's difficult anyway with house balls, so I bowl straight.

house balls are made of plastic and only have a 5 hook rating, which is the lowest possible.....you can get them to hook, but its extremely hard.
