I can't think of anything for hubby and me. Not many costumes work for overweight people. And my creativity when it comes to costumes is stumped. Last year we dressed up as Captain Hammer and groupie. That was pretty easy to put together. We wore the costumes to Comic Con in Austin too.

hmmmm i'm in quite a scenario. I wanted to dress up as medusa(and make my own snake headpiece) but my friends and i may not go anywhere special except a movie marathon. So zombie it will probably be! ;)

yes! that can work :) but darn you should try to dress up with something at least(like future employee of the month sticker on you too)! haha
  • I'm going as a slightly sexy female version of the 10th Doctor. I've got a friend who's going to be a female 11th. We're pretty excited about it. Halloween is my favorite.

When in doubt- go as Star Trek. It's cheap, easy, and comfortable.
(That's me in the red! We were at a "the future" themed gala, which supplied the backdrop.)

Last year, I went all out and dressed up as a 40k daemon host.

The only place we went to was Orange Leaf for some free fro-yo and only three people showed up for our party. So, we aren't really doing anything this year. My boyfriend and I are both deeply saddened by this since Halloween is our favorite holiday.

My 11-yr-old was Spock last year. It was really fun to put together and he loved it! Most of the kids didn't know who he was though :grumble:

I think I'm going for Miss Piggy. Blonde wig, pig ears and nose, and my normal, over-the-top outfits, plus purple feather boa. Mwah!

Last year, being as I was teaching college, I went as Sarah Connor - leather pants, leather jacket, and black tank.

I don't think anyone commented on my attire.

Maybe with a full compliment of firearms I would have made a bigger impact?

Last year we had a fancy dress day at work, so as I work in payroll, I was a Zombie Payroll Officer! Old work suit liberally splashed with fake blood, back-combed hair and my team did some fab grey make-up on me.

Really need to get thinking for this year though...

Considering either Captain America or Tony Stark this year though this will require a stick on evil goatee

Zombies for the city zombie walk... we'll be going as contaminated CDC scientist and hazmat worker. A lab coat for me, and safety coveralls for him, and lots of torn and rotting flesh thanks to liquid latex.

I practiced on my hand the other day.

For parties, possibly the Spanish Inquisition. No one will expect it.

    Or zombies again.

My 11-yr-old decided on his last night - the Matt Smith iteration of the Doctor, with fez and mop. I'm ridiculously happy about that!

My daughter was Princess Leia one year - I made an awesome white costume for her, put her hair in the little side buns and everything - sooooo many people thought she was an angel or a nun. :grumble: Whatever. What nun or angel every had side buns???

She's currently driving me nuts to work on the most difficult costume I've ever made for her - Astrid from How To Train Your Dragon. The over-skirt and the arm wraps are plaguing me. Anyone have any advice?

She's got an awesome Hobbit costume she was going to wear for Halloween, but is now saving it for The Hobbit premiere. She wants me to dress as an Elf for that, but not sure I have the time to pull something together while dealing with her costumes. At least her Hobbit costume is done - easily found all the pieces at thrift stores, except for the cloak of course, but found the perfect fabric and getting the pattern was easy.

After Astrid is done, she is still talking about getting a Portal costume together, and wants an Elf costume for herself for the second and third Hobbit films...and I'm sure she'll come up with some desire for a Doctor Who and Sherlock costumes of some sort as well.

Would socks with the feet cut off work for the arm bands?

For the skirt, check a fabric shop for brown vinyl in the home decor and upholstery section. You can just cut it and leave the edges raw. Maybe even just cut the shapes like a men's tie and hot glue them to a belt, rather than make it like a skirt.

Large silver buttons would work instead of the spikes. And you can pop the heads off the skeletons from this garland from Dollar Tree. http://www.dollartree.com/Graveyard-Plastic-Skeleton-Garlands-60-/p301446/index.pro

I agree, if you use either a long mens sports sock and cut the top of the foot/toe out with a single finger hole that would give it the shape, to colour it if you buy a white one i would use maybe general dust or a food dye mix to give it the colour as it is a very oatmeal like colour

or you could use either cotton bandages they are that kinda colour anyway and dead cheap - or actual boxing wraps, a little more expensive but the same effect and they already have a loop on them

For the skirt you can sew (if you have a machine, brown fabric over cardboard shapes which would then easily attach to a black belt with a couple of stitches or with a little flap over the top into the waistband and tacked or glued at the back i would make the spikes out of rolled card cones with sponge in the back so you can glue it to the skirt and just use foil on the tops to give them the spikey metal look

For the skulls you could use a ping pong ball, cut in half and placed over a wine cork or old cotton reel just magic marker on in black the nose eye sockets and teeth and then glue that to the skirt

Hell even i want this costume now

    Thanks for the tips!

I actually do have some brown vinyl we found at a flea market (yay - cheap!), I just need to plot out out to put it together before I start cutting. I do have a machine, hoping I have a needle that will go through vinyl. Could probably get one if I don't.

She's been making the bird skulls and spikes from white Crayola clay stuff - they came out pretty good. She made the shoulder armor from foam sheets and painted it silver - those came out great too, just have to figure out how to attach them.

I've got some gauzy muslin for the arm wraps, just need to tea dye it for the color, and figure out how or what to attach it too for easy on/off. Thinking more foam sheets, but then need to figure how to keep it together on her arms - velcro? Same issue for keeping the overskirt fastener - either a hook closure of some sort or velcro - but always worry that velcro will pop if she bends over or something. :P

I will have to post pics of it when it's all done!

If you get the length of the gauze right once you have dry fit it onto your daughter then all you need to do is cut or tear about a 6 inch piece down the length of the end and then loop it around the arm to tie in a bow rather than use safety pins, i wouldnt use more foam as it will be hot and might not bend as well. You could glue or attach it to long gloves like the ones Audrey Hepburn wears, just cut off the fingers and you have your basis for the loop there as well.

Ahhhhhh, Halloween. My most favorite time of the year! Last year I dressed as Matryoshka Gumi with crazy contacts in and everything. This year I am going to be the Crow. Not as in Brandon Lee The Crow, but the actual corvid. I have the feather wig, a long nosed venetian mask which needs to be painted black, a feather bustle for my tail feathers, and waiting on the rest of the feather to attach to arm bands for the wings.
My daughter is huge into cosplaying, so who knows who she will be this year. Dave or Feferi, or Sollux... Or she may throw out all those and go Vocaloid again. Who knows.
