James 1:2-8 (NIV)
"2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do."

This scripture came to mind this morning. I had to choose to eat right. My plan, for now, does not allow raisin toast, but I was making it for my husband and really wanted 'just one slice'. But knowing I would have to tell you all about not starting out right (accountability), and knowing I wanted to win this battle (not doubting the rightness of my battle) , I had to choose to persevere in the face of my temptation. I had two low fat chicken sausages and 4oz of V-8 Fusion juice. So far, I am satisfied still after 90 minutes (not always the case for me, I am a nibbler) , and happy I made the right choice!

(Tomorrow - I add exercise by jumping on my stationary recumbent bike early in the morning.)

How does this passage from James encourage you today?

  • The part that sticks out to me is verse 6 - But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." If I do not have faith and doubt what God can do in me I am defeated. I can not allow past failures in this area to get me off course . I have been that person who has doubted and been "blown and tossed by the wind". I no longer want to do this. Today I am choosing, I am looking at the "price tags" of the foods I am eating before I eat them to determine if I am willing to spend that amount of calories on the food. It the cost is too high I will choose something else. Today I am going to burn more calories than I take in. The battle is in my mind and I must believe and trust that God will help me to make good choices today. Praise Him!
