Waiting for test results.

Hello everyone, my name is Leah and I am 29 years old, I will be 30 in about a week or so. I just visited a Dr on Friday because I have had enough.
I have been dealing with unexplained weight gain, periods that either show up early or don't show up at all, to breaking out in acne to unexplained hair growth.
I used to get cysts on my ovaries when I was younger but birth control had helped me with that. The Dr just put me on a pill that she claims will make me get my period then she wants me to start birth control.
Today I am waiting for blood test results because she is checking me for raised testoerone levels and diabteus and issues with my Thyroid.
She said she may possibly put me on a low dose of Metformin depending on the test results. I suppose I just would like to know what to expect.
Can people with P.C.O.S. really lose weight and what are my options? I guess I need advice. Any support will help. Thank you all.

Hi Leah- and happy early birthday!!
People with PCOS can definitely lose weight- I think we just have to work a little (okay- a lot most of the time to me!) harder at it. I find that keeping a consistent exercise schedule and watching both sugar and carbs helps a lot.
If you peruse the boards under this group I'm certain you'll find a lot of examples of people with PCOS who have lost 50 if not 100 lbs or so.0 -
Thank you for the response, I am tired of nothing working. I am hoping by being part of this group combined with the right motivation and guidance I can make it happen.0

Getting the diagnosis can be a huge relief, once you know what you should be doing, it all makes sense from there. Best of luck, and we're all here for you when ya need the support.0

Yes people with PCOS can lose weight. It is much harder. I have been doing the South Beach Diet along with going to the gym 3 times a week for a year and have lost 58 pounds so far. It can happen.0

I have severe PCOS and endometriosis (I've had several surgeries and one ovary removed) and yes, losing weight is entirely possible! I've lost over 40 pounds since May. I haven't been following a special diet, just eating in moderation and working out at least an hour a day five days or more a week. I've been on metformin for a long time, it's definitely regulated my blood sugar, but I can't attribute any weight loss to it- it likely just helps to level the playing field. It's hard, but I think losing weight for everyone is hard regardless of health issues. Having a health related reason to get in shape just gives me more motivation, so I think it's actually been easier for me than for people who are just doing it to look good.0
