From what I understand, SL is a lot more simple and straightforward than NR. NR is pretty simple in the beginning but then the routines and exercises get a bit complicated, I think.

Its been awhile since I read NR but its much more involved and takes alot longer. SL is pretty simple and doesnt deviate from the workout routine. 3 moves one day, three moves another day, repeat with added weight. It doesnt take that long when you first start, so you may finish in 15-20 minutes. NR can take an hour....
  • Yeah, I think the simplicity of 5x5 speaks to me ;-)

I have not done NR but from what I understand, it has a lot of tedious complicated workouts that take a long time. SL is down and dirty....5 moves total and you only do three of them per work out. Even though that sounds easy SL can take some time to complete as you move up with weights....you will need lots of rest between sets. I also like that SL is free....and I have a free app for my phone too.

I tried NROLFW...liked it at first, but the later workouts were complicated and time consuming.

I personally want to gain strength and think that 5x5 is a more efficient way to do it for me: Same basic, time-proven multijoint movements, same reps, same sets with the only variable being the weight. I, too, like the simplicity.

And, I don't want to have to be looking at a book to remember the order of each exercise, the prescribed rest periods, etc. as is in NROLFW.
