Make Up Bargains -- what do you like?

I have recently been experimenting with some very reasonably priced make-up options. My new favorite is NYX. This is "Ulta's" professional line. They have liquid eyeliner in some fabulous color choices for just $4.50 each. I had been paying $29 for the Lancome liquid liner. I like the NYX just as well -- if not better. NYX also offers a great lip pencil for just $3.50 each. Their color selection is enormous and the pencil is of very good quality -- equal to MAC, Bobbi Brown and others.

I feel I have "wasted" hundreds of dollars on Department Store Brands!

With the Holidays approaching, I would love to learn of other options. You Make-Up Addicts must have some great suggestions. Anyone?

Never tried NYX, but several friends have and they all like it. I don't think it's Ulta's brand, though--Ulta makes their own line of cosmetics and products just simply under their name "Ulta." I've seen NYX sold at many different stores. I'm a huge fan of Ulta's nail polishes and eye shadow singles.

I think Rimmel is my all-time favorite for mascara. Much cheaper than big prestige brands and works just as well (better, IMO) as the fancier ones. With coupons from the Sunday paper as well as deals from stores like CVS and Target and such...I can usually get them for around or under $5.

I use different shades of blush...usually cheek stains from Tarte, which are over $20 each...I just tried Maybelline's Bouncy Blush, and I like it just as well! Though I will say, Maybelline isn't exactly all-natural like Tarte. I've only just started using Maybelline's blush, so we'll see if I have any reactions to it. Coupons + being on sale, it came to only $6, I think. I also bought their new BB Cream, which I'll be trying within the next week...here's hoping it's good!

Thanks, Kimmy. I meant to say NYX is the "professional" line sold at Ulta. Kind of like Make Up Forever is the "professional" line sold at Sephora. Will give Rimmel a try. They seem to have a great line. Thanks!

Oh! Gotcha. I personally like Sephora stores better, since their customer service has always been above and beyond, for me, whereas I'm lucky to get mediocre service, at best, at my local Ulta. Usually it's downright crappy service. It's just this location, though, since when I'm traveling, I've experienced much better service elsewhere at other Ulta stores! I also love both stores rewards programs. I can more easily rack up points with Ulta since they sell more than just make-up--I also get my hair dye, moisturizers and make-up removing wipes, hair products, hair accessories, and body wash and stuff there, as well. Plus they have coupons every week. Sephora is where I go for prestige cosmetics, though, like Make Up Forever and Too Faced and such, since they seem to offer exclusive products from brands like that that other stores don't have. I also like Sephora's line of brushes.

So far, I've only tried Rimmel's mascara....can't remember the exact name of it, but it's the one in the bright orange tube. But I think I will try more from them in the future!

MAC is as inexpensive as I purchase, I like to find stuff at the cosmetics company outlet when it's been priced down (discontinued colors and such)

The department store brands are owned by the same companies that make drugstore brands (for example, L'Oreal is made by the same company as Lancome). I have yet to find a department store item that didn't have an equivalent in the drugstore!

NYC is an under-rated brand. I like their lipsticks.

Avon's Super Shock mascara is still my #1, no matter how many mascaras I try.

I don't have an Ulta around here, but we did just get a Sephora this year :smooched:

I've never used Lancome products (though I do have a few samples waiting to try from Sephora!), but I do like the L'Oreal HIP eye shadow duos! I had no idea they were made by Lancome!

L'Oreal is one of my favorite brands. I have a few of the Colour Rich lipsticks, and I have also used some of their mascaras. I still prefer Avon's Super Shock mascara, though! I swear I'm not an Avon lady  I just love a mascara that emphasizes my lashes but doesn't flake or smudge under my eyes.

I used an Avon mascara once, years ago, and I remember really liking it. I used to buy stuff from Avon all the time! I kinda forgot they existed until now. Need to find me a rep or check out their site!

I must say, I am really liking Maybelline's Bouncy Blush...been alternating between that one, and my definitely-more-expensive Tarte cheek stain...I like the cheek stains, but they're much harder to blend. Alternatively, I am really hating Maybelline's BB cream. It has such a funky smell to it...I thought at first it was a new brush I had, but it wasn't...it was definitely the BB cream. My boyfriend went to give me a kiss and smelled it. Not cool. It also appears much darker than my skin tone for the first half hour or so, but then it eventually "fades" into my skin tone and looks more natural. It also just feels very, very heavy. Not a fan. That's the 3rd BB cream I've tried (Too Faced's and Garnier's were the other 2 I tried)...I think the BB cream fad just isn't for me.

Maybelline is one of my least favorite drugstore brands. (Revlon is the worst.) I have Maybelline Mega Plush mascara, and that is pretty good. It's not my favorite mascara, but I like how thick it makes my lashes look. It flakes a bit, though.

Haven't tried their Mega Plush mascara yet...I've seen ads in magazines for it, though. I'm considering trying it, since my lashes aer naturally very long, but not very full...so I need that "plush"-ness, perhaps, lol!

    I <3 NYX!

other bargain brands- wet n wild (at most pharmacies like walgreens, cvs, also walmart, etc). their 8 pan palettes are just gorgeous. I have comfort zone which is as good as or better than Urban Decay Naked Palette. Yes that good. and its only 4.99 so its worth a try. Also their liquid liner is awesome! its all i use!

    good luck!
