I was wondering if any of you have a recipe for oatmeal in the crock pot. I have a 4 qt (I think) and would love to be able to make breakfast that is ready in the morning.

Thanks!

I've tried the one that Alton Brown demonstrated on Good Eats. It's very good, but only if you don't go for the full nine hours listed. In fact, if I let the crock pot go past seven hours the oatmeal burns. I scoop out the nonburned part and have found it pretty yummy anyway. Maybe my crock pot is just too hot. If you try it, let me know if it works for you and for how long you let it cook.

    Here's his recipe:
    Overnight Oatmeal

    Recipe courtesy Alton Brown

    Total Time:
    9 hr 10 min
    Prep

    Cook
    9 hr 0 min

    Yield:
    4 servings

    Level:
    Easy

    Ingredients

    1 cup steel cut oats
    1 cup dried cranberries
    1 cup dried figs
    4 cups water
    1/2 cup half-and-half

    Directions

In a slow cooker, combine all ingredients and set to low heat. Cover and let cook for 8 to 9 hours.

Stir and remove to serving bowls. This method works best if started before you go to bed. This way your oatmeal will be finished by morning.

Oh, and I use the nonfat half and half. Of course, that may be why it doesn't cook as long. Hmmmm.
