Hi Ladies! I have been off of spironalactone and birth control for almost a year now. I have kept my weight off and am still trying to lose a couple more pounds. Still no luck getting pregnant. I have been doing more of a vegan/whole foods plant based diet which seems to be working. I know that is not typical of most PCOS women but I have been having a period every 28 to 30 days. At first I was SO excited to be having a period since starting out as a teen I never had a regular period. But, now every month when my period comes I am kind of depressed to find out I am once again not pregnant! Just wondering if any ladies have had success with out taking medication? Any tips or advice? My doctor keeps wanting to put me on metaformin. I have been doing the over the counter ovulation kits and they are showing positive for the LH surge every month which gives me hope. I have been having bad acne and some hirisutism problems since getting off the pill and spiro though which is upsetting. :(

I got pregnant without any drugs or anything. That was 6 years ago and my son is now 5. I have not had a pregnancy since but there is hope because I have tried a new detox cleanse that worked for my friend who is pregnant with twins!!! The detox is right along the lines of what you are doing with clean eating so I am sure you would be able to handle it!

What kind of detox is this? I want to try something that might kickstart some weight loss.

I wanted to just share some of my story. I'm 28 years old, diagnosed in January with PCOS. I'm 5'5 and 125lbs (so a thin cyster). The doctor put me on Clomid because she thought ovulation was my problem. The Clomid made me ovulate, but I could not get pregnant. After doing a ton of research, I have now learned that not ovulating is actually the end result of a domino effect that starts with insulin resistance. During my research, I discovered inositol. It's a type of B vitamin that helps with insulin resistance, egg quality, ovulation and rebalancing hormones. After starting on it, I immediately noticed a decrease in sugar cravings and within 2 months had dropped 5 lbs without any change in diet or exercise. Within three months, I was pregnant all on my own. Unfortunately, about 3 weeks ago, that ended in an ectopic pregnancy and the removal of my right tube. However, I am still optomistic because the ectopic is no way related to PCOS.

So my suggestion for you, would be to talk to your doctor about inositol. I've found that most doctors push medication first and might not be open to a natural approach. You can check out www.pregnitude.com also. It's a new product that hit the US in May. It's been in Europe for the past 10 years and has shown a lot of success. It's inositol and folic acid in one. Your doctor might be familiar with it. You don't need a prescription but you will need to get it from your pharmacy, or order it online.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I've been drowning myself in this research for the past year. I'm also a personal trainer, group fitness instructor and nutritional consultant.

I was diagnosed with PCOS approx. 10 years ago and have tried everything. I have found that the combination of metformin, a healthy diet and exercise was the only way for me to reverse the effects of PCOS. My first pregnancy occurred prior to this realization and required doctor assistance. My second pregnancy was a complete surprise and occurred after getting on the healthy wagon and losing 70lbs. The metformin combats the insulin resistance which I believe can cause infertility. I hate to admit it but metformin has changed my life.

I became pregnant in July without anything and I have PCOS. The hint is stop trying and go on vacation with your hubby for a week. ;-) I miscarried on the 23rd though. I am going to do the same thing I did last time. Lose 10% of my weight and we are going on vacation during Mardi Gras to get out of the city (I live in new orleans).

I was diagnoied a little over a year ago and wanted to try the all natural and healthy approach before I started any medications. For a year I changed all of my eating habits. I only buy organic foods and do most of my shopping at the local farmers market or in my own back yard. We even went as far as purchasing our own chickens and feeding them non-soy feed as well as allowing them to free range. I guess the debate is still out but it was our undersating that there was a link between soy and infertility. I have done juice cleanses as well as all natural cleanses that you can purchase. But nothing has changed. For the past year I have had regular cycles and monthly would show a positive ovulation however it was only for one day. Last month I went to the fertility specialist who has performed a number of tests on myself and my husband. She started me out on the Metformin and after just four days on it I had a full ovulation... a positive test for two days. I have an appointment on the 29th to follow up and to receive the results from my husbands semin analysis as well as my HSG. I have never been one for wanting to take any kind of medication and I tried the natural way but was ready to try something else. I never thought it would take so long for me to get pregnant but I am hopeful that I will have some positive news soon:)

When I was trying to get pregnant with my first child, I could not on my own. I did not know what the problem was, we tried for a year with no luck. I went to the doctor and was referred to a reproductive speclaist, who then told me I have PCOS and he put me on a medication cycle. I took metaformin, clomide and had to do hormone shots and hormone suppositories. I got pregnant within the first 3 months of doing this but miscarried my baby. We started trying a couple months after that loss and nothing was happening with the medicine, but we continued for a couple more months and tada, I became pregnant with my daughter in 2004 and had her in 2005. Still didnt have a normal cycle after giving birth and going on birth control. The doctor also told me that if I wanted more kids, I would have to go through the same thing. So, in my mind I had already made the decision that I was not going to have any more kids, but God had something else in store for me. In 2009, I found out that I was pregnant with my youngest daughter. No medicine involved, just the good ole fashion way of making a baby. I was beyond shocked. So, my point of my story is that I think it depends on the woman and your situation. My first two pregancies, I couldnt do it on my own, but my last pregnany I did. When I spoke to my doctor about it (a new doctor), she said it just happens like that sometimes. I have two friends that have PCOS, and one has 3 kids and the other has 2 both had them without the help of fertility medicine. So it can happne. Good luck.

Thank you everyone for your responses and giving me some more options to think about. I am going to make an appointment with my OBGYN in February and see where my hormones and everything are at and see where to go from there.

    I have 2 girls.
The first - 2006 was a medicated conception (Metformin and Clomid).
The second - 2011 was unmedicated after a 40 lb. weight loss (SURPRISE!!).

That is awesome. It seems like from what I have heard from others it is normally easier to conceive the 2nd time with PCOS and a lot of the time they conceive naturally with baby #2.

We just found out yesterday that we are pregnant! After years of fertility we had moved on to adoption and stopped TTC. We were not using any medicines and I have not had a period since September. We are shocked but thrilled.

My husband and I tried for a little over a year to get pregnant with our first child, then my doctor put me on Metformin and Clomid and after 6 months on the two, we finally were over joyed with a positive pregnancy test. My daughter is now 5 and a healthy, happy Princess :). When she turned 2, we started TTC (after I lost 60lbs) without medication and within 6 months we got pregnant, unfortunetly I miscarriage at 95 weeks. :( I didn't want to try anymore, I was happy we were blessed with our daughter and didn't want to go through the pain/hurt of another loss. We stopped TTC (but didn't do anything to prevent it, if it happens, it happens), I continued to workout and eat healthy, I lost 12lbs more. Within 5 month of losing our precious baby, we got the happy surprise of pregnancy with my son, who is now 14 months old. It definitely can happen without meds, but one thing I was also told was "stop trying". Often times we "try" too much and it isn't until we "give up hope" that God surprises us with a perfect little blessing.
    Good luck TTC!

Are you taking any progesterone replacement like cream or prometrium?
