Hacking Rant

So I just need to share this while I stay on the forever Blizzard support wait time...

Yeah, I was playing and literally got knocked off. Tried to log on, but my password had already been changed. When I quickly reset the lock and logged back on, my main had joined a guild along the lines of "xia xung zo."

I was almost exalted in my old guild... SO MAD. IT'S HALLOW'S END. I LOVE FOR WoW HOLIDAY EVENTS :(

I've also been hacked 3 or 4 times in the last two weeks :( I always have a strong password, the authenticator, etc... sigh. Just a rant with those who would probably understand.

have you checked for a keylogger? its kinda tough to be hacked w/the authenticator, esp if you updated your phone authenticator a month or so ago when they asked us to.

hope you get it all back. guild rep is faceroll now, lvl 20's are getting exaulted so dailies will pop you up there fast fast.

    ((hugs))

Last time I got hacked (a LONG time ago, don't play now) Blizz was pretty quick about it. Only took prolly 30 mins and they gave me better gear than I had on (idk if it was an accident or not haha)

My advice would be to stop going to such dangerous websites ;).
Haha in all seriousness, that sucks. Wish I could actually give you advice.

If you have a phone authenticator ditch it for a real one ASAP. The phone auth's are very vulnerable to being intercepted / hacked and it's been a known issue for a while. They may "fix" it temporarily but it get's cracked in no time, just like all software based DRM, etc does.

I've never had an issue w/ my blizzard accounts using the 1st edition (original release batch) physical authenticator.

Yeah, that's what the Blizz lady and I figured out, so I ordered a physical one :( Bah, it's not a TON of money, but it feels like a racket to have to buy something for security on a game I already pay for.

When I got mine a couple years back they were selling them for the exact cost to make them plus ship them, so I was okay with it.

Just don't lose the darn thing!

And this ladies and gentlemen, is the main reason why I stopped. It is a ripoff.

It seems unfair to me that they require you to buy more merchandise in order to keep an account safe; they should be doing that for you! As if you don't spend enough money already on the expansions and subscription.

My EU account was hacked. A friend of mine messaged me and asked if I'd made use of the free trial time to come back to the game. I had not. I emailed Blizzard. They told me it was likely a keylogger. Bullcrap, says I. I hadn't logged in for months. Two other members from my guild who had quit the same day I had were also victim to this hacking.

I swear, Blizzard is complicit in most of these account hackings...

Most of the "hackings" come from them getting your email address and password from other sites that you've signed up at (guild forums, Curse Gaming, etc etc). Most forums are very vulnerable to hacking so getting this info is quite easy. And as most people use the same email address and passwords everywhere it's easy access into your WoW account at that point.

I can assure you that my passwords were not run of the mill passwords and I did not use the same passwords for forums as I did for my account. The fact others in my guild were hacked on the very same day leads me to believe that Blizzard themselves leaked sensitive information.

Blizzard security (some might say Bliz in general) has gone to crap since their merger with Activision. They definitely push their authenticator, which isn't that expensive, but they still make money on them, around $2 of the price of those authenticators go to parts and labor to put them together, so you can do the math.
