Energy Bars

Hi all
In 3 weeks time I'll be jetting over to Vietnam for a 500km cycle ride in aid of Parkinson's UK. I don't normally use energy bars as I just adjust my diet but as I don't know what the food will be like when I get out there I think they will be a good idea. Does anyone have any recommendations for bars that taste nice, aren't too filling and don't cost the earth. I'm in the UK.
Thanks all

Hi I'm from the UK...
There are many, many brands out there, it's just a matter of choosing which flavour combinations you like best. For long rides of over 4 hours I tend to fill one of my pockets up with a supermarkets own brand flapjacks! They are easy to eat on the go, full of energy and reasonably cheap.
That said I also use energy gels which give you an extra boost of carbs and are easily absorbed by the body. You can also supplement these with energy drinks like SIS Energy or other variants. A trip to your local bike shop will give you an idea of those sorts of products but also Holland & Barrett do quite a good range as well.
I have seen the event you are doing advertised before and thought what an amazing thing it would be to do. You are very brave, good on you, I hope it goes well and please come back and fill us in.
Feel free to add me if you would like some support.

the one problem you may have with "energy drink powders" is with customs. They tend to be very suspicious of people carrying large canisters of white powder... and really, REALLY don't split it up into bottle sized baggies
In all honesty, I think you may be slightly better asking this question on one of the dedicated UK cycling forums (Bikeradar.com, Singletrackworld.com as they're possibly more likely to have had a number of cyclists who HAVE travelled to the areas you're visiting...
personally, I'd be tempted to try a few types of energy bars/gels, sort out one or two that suit your digestive system and take a stash. I like the Cliff bars (peanut butter one is fantastic) and Mule Bars (chocolate fig fiesta is fantastic) as they're a little less pharmacutical and a little more organic in composition.0
