So who will take over the reigns of the Star Wars universe?

Disney has now announced a new Star Wars film will be released in 2015. This of course begs the question who will be the director to bring an entirely new Star Wars to the big screen. Lucas has said and i quote "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of film-makers". I've pondered this all morning (it's been a boring day at work) and I think I've come up with a film maker that I both want to see behind the camera and would bet money on. That man is Brad Bird. For starters he has already worked for Disney with the films he has directed for Pixar. He is a creative genius and in my opinion a superior director to Lucas. It just seems like a perfect fit to me. What does everybody think? Who would you like to see behind the camera for Star Wars part VII?

Honestly...I would like to see Christopher Nolan direct, but I want to see aliens thought up by Guillermo del Toro (hope I didn't massacre his name too much.)

I'd be down with Brad Bird- "The Incredibles" is still my favorite Pixar movie.
  • As much as I'd love to see Nolan Star Wars I think his style is too based in reality to work with a fantasy movie. Del Toro would be a great call but I think Pacific Rim is going to do well and that will put his price way up. At the end of the day Disney have paid all this money as an investment and they plan on making it back and more. We may have to put aside our list of dream directors!

Oh totally, mine to. My cousin and I used to have phone calls that were just the two of us doing lousy Edna Mode impressions. She's 9 by the way!

I'm more interested in seeing where they are going to land the new movie. It cant be Truce at Bakara all the charecter are to old ... unless they try to recast everyone which would more then likely be a disaster

I'm not sure how much stock they will put into the books. They may touch on them or rework the stories to fit better with the age of the actors. I think they could use Harrison, Mark, and Carrie to simply setup the next series. Parents or even Grandparents of the new generation and all that.

I would rather see prequels like Freedon Nadd uprising or Dark Lords of the Sith...5000 years before the new republic

was just reading that the movies will be original. thank god they wont be using anything from the EU.

my guess is it will be set 30-40 years after ROTJ so that we have cameos by the original actors.

They have to be careful with that though and make sure thay they dont deveate to far from the future in the book series since the whole SW universe is supposed to intermeld. A lot of the hard core fans have read the books andif I'm not mistaken the only solo kid alive 30 years in the future is Jania.

I would love it if they base it off the Legacy of the Force book series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legacy_of_the_Force). A much darker story line, but excellent story writing. If you look at the Batman series and Game of Thrones, audiences are loving darker and more gritty storylines. Also, the timeline is perfect - 40 years after Episode IV.

With so many books available in the Star Wars universe, I really don't think they have a lack of materials.

I think I could die happy if Joss Whedon took over Star Wars and cast Nathan Fillion as . . . anyone really, but can't you image him as being a fantastic scoundrel?

Would be awesome wouldn't it :-). But I suspect Joss is a bit busy with Marvel these days. Nathan Fillion for Ant Man!

from what i have been reading online they will not try to fit the new movies into the EU of books, comics etc...i think thats a good thing. lets start this phase of movies with a clean slate so we are not pigeon holed into pre existing stuff.
  • Ok so the first rumour about who will be directing Star Wars VII has surfaced. It's not Brad Bird sadly but instead the current front runner is Kick *kitten* director Matthew Vaughn. This is apparently why he's pulled out of directing the new Xmen film. I'm guessing he's been put forward more for directing Stardust than Kick *kitten*. Can't say I'm overly thrilled as he comes off as being incredibly arrogant in interviews and rarely gives anything more than one word answers. But hey I'm just a geek who likes a gossip and Disney are paying the money.

    To be continued........

 My inner fanboy is squealing!!! I hope it's true.

Following the announcement of the plans for "Star Wars Episode 7" from Disney last week, a report has surfaced claiming that Harrison Ford is game to play Han Solo once again.

"Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he's upbeat about it, all three of them are," an Entertainment Weekly source claimed, referring to the 70-year-old actor, along with his original "Star Wars" co-stars Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

Though just two years ago, the actor wasn't exactly singing the praises of the space-smuggler-turned-rebel hero.

"As a character he was not so interesting to me," the actor told ABC News in 2010 when asked about Han Solo.

Adding, "I thought he should have died in the last one to give it some bottom... George didn't think there was any future in dead Han toys."
