Slow weight loss is the best weight loss

Yesterday my new massage therapist said I was really well-toned, that she couldn't tell I'd just lost 50 pounds. She said I must've done it the "right" way -- slowly. Which I did... an average of 5-6 pounds a month for the first 9 months, and then a slow-down for the last 20 (in progress).

I know there's a lot to be said for seeing the scale move quickly, but the long-term benefits of going slowly really make everything both better and easier on the other end of the journey (no saggy skin!).

Don't be penny-wise and pound-foolish, as my grandmother use to say. Slow and steady wins the race. Any other cliches and platitudes apply here? ;c)

I love Eeyore and one of his favorite sayings was " I won't say no, I won't say can't, I won't say I won't try. I'll just say YES I CAN and I'll do it by and by.

Great one for me too. I've just returned from a trip to California where I wasn't logging. I've gained a few pounds. So it's back to my MFP routine today and I'm jazzed about it! So much easier to lose a couple instead of 10 or more!

I agree-it has taken me 2 years 9 months and I have lost 97 lbs-still looking at another 70 to lose-I know I will keep it off as I am doing it very slowly and it is a lifestyle change-not just another diet. Slow and steady wins the race (of weight loss)

That is music to my ears today.. I have lost nearly 70 lbs but it has taken over 3 years.. I am definitely the tortoise in this race
  • I have been losing normally a pound a week, occasionally two, so it's been slow and steady. As long as I am going in the right direction, I really don't mind, in fact I am very happy. Actually, now I think of it, I wonder if this is because I don't have a goal weight in mind? Which means I can enjoy the journey without worrying about the destination. I know goals can be helpful and motivational, but right now I am fine without one. I think I didn't create a goal initially because I was intent on a permanent lifestyle change, rather than a diet which would end at some point. (Sorry, random ramblings! But slow is good!)
