Fitbit One - Bluetooth

The Fitbit site indicates the Fitbit One comes with a USB Bluetooth dongle. Is that only for computers without built in Bluetooth?
My Mac already has Bluetooth. Will a One connect to that? Not sure what effect it would have if I try to add a second Bluetooth system to a machine that already has one.
My Mac is a 20" early 2008 iMac.
It appears the charging cable also connects to USB - so that would need two USB ports :noway:

I THINK the Bluetooth is for the phone and cable for the PC. Only phone is iPhone 4S/5 and ipad 30

Does the Fitbit One work on a Mac running Lion?
I don't fancy upgrading to Mountain Lion at the moment :noway:0 -
Apparently the Fitbit One only works with its own Bluetooth dongle, even on machines that already have Bluetooth4 - so that makes it a non-starter IMHO :noway:
Pity - it might have been a nice little device.0 -
It does work beautifully with BT 4 Phones though. It can drain the battery a bit (like any BT app) if you leave the app running though. So far, I'm glad I upgraded from the Ultra for BT sync.0

Don't understand this??0 -
The Fitbit One syncs wirelessly with the computer using its own dongle. This is not a bluetooth sync, but a wireless sync.
If you link your One to your iphone (4s and upwards) then this is the bluetooth connection.
It works beautifully, well so far anyway.0 -

The one bluetooth dongle is a teeny tiny little nub on your computer. I barely notice it and my laptop is always on my lap. I dont like that it has a second dongle for charging. It's a bit of a pain.
I have an iPhone5, and the bluetooth sync is awesome, I really love it!! I hope more android phones come out with bluetooth 4.0 so others can enjoy this great feature!
I doubt you need Mountain lion to run it. I do have Mountain Lion on my mac, but I never had any problems with their software on the mac back when I had lion.0 -

It only uses Bluetooth 4.0 the low energy version. So your hardware would not have that version of bluetooth anyways.0 -
Well, I have the iPad Mini and my Galaxy S3 has (at last) upgraded to JB. All being well, the Fitbit One should arrive today, so we will see what happens
Anyone know what port the Fitbit Windows software uses to connect with the Website please? My work laptop does not connect, so I am guessing the signal can't get past the office Firewall.0 -
Fitbit One arrived - thankyou Amazon and the Post Office.
The App on my Galaxy S3 does not seem to have any way to connect with a new device, but the iPad Mini has connected and synced the new device.
Not tried the Bluetooth dongle yet.
Good so far, except the clip on the holder is much too small to fit on my belt or the pocket of my jeans. Not sure how well it will record in my pocket but no other way to attach it to my clothes.0 -

Unlike the old type of pedometers, you can put it anywhere. If you're a woman, you can clip if in your bra.0 -

Fitbit does recommend tho that you keep it in the torso area, not on the feet or wrist (wrist only for sleeping)0 -

Sorry. Didn't realise that.0 -
Remember that when the Fitbit one syncs with your computer it is not via Bluetooth. The small dongle that comes with the Fitbit is a wireless dongle, similar to the ones that connect to wireless mice. You only need the Bluetooth for phone or tablet connection.

Steve
Are you sure about that?
I am using the Dongle now on my Mac and I didn't have to add a new MAC address to the access list for WiFi devices on my Router.
On the other hand I didn't need to pair the thing either, so a bit of a puzzle. Seems to be working though.
Pity it doesn't fit on my belt.0 -
The dongle doesn't need to connect to any wireless network. It is the same sort of technology used wen you have a wireless mouse with the little dongle thing. RF technology I think but definitely not Bluetooth.0

That makes more sense. Now I think about it, it does seem just like my wireless mouse.

I just bought Hisense Sero 7 Pro, with bluetooth 3.0 Didn't realize that the ONE had to have BLE 4.0 to sync. So now I have to turn on my laptop everytime I need to sync. Darn! Can't even plug in the Doggle to the USB port to get it to sync on my tablet0

Oops, I replied to op without seeing how old this thread is.0

Only if your Android has BLE capabilities. Just bought a new android based tablet, said bluetooth....not BLE it is still running bluetooth 3.0. pissed me off, bought to be able to connect to my Fitbit and it doesn't so just buyer beware.0

Does anyone know if non-Fitbit wireless dongles (as in ones that aren't officially connected to Fitbit) will work for the One?0
