It's all in our heads

Sunday I went to brunch and was craving a burger. This place makes a "skinny" bison burger -- about half the size of a regular one with lettuce, tomato & grilled onions on a 100-calorie bun. My friend ordered the gigunda-kitchen-sink burger and I was worried I'd feel deprived. I asked for a tablespoon of gorgonzola crumbles to dress mine up, et voila! My skinny burger was every bit as delicious as hers (I had a bite just to be sure) and totally satisfying.

Then yesterday, I pulled a Trader Joe's mushroom & truffle (is that redundant?) flatbread out of the freezer, saw the size of it and thought, "I can eat that whole thing." I dressed it up with some leftover lamb & parmesan, cooked it, sliced it up, put it on a dinner plate, then sat down for my meal... got halfway through and realized I was completely full. Wrapped it up and will have it again later this week.

My HEAD thought I needed the gigunda burger. My HEAD thought I needed the whole flatbread. My body had other ideas.

Thank God I'm finally listening.

I've found this happens to me also. Hopefully Thansgiving will have the same effect! Smaller portions & making the right choices is starting to become habit....a good habit for once!

Thanks for sharing your experience. My biggest problem is portion control and eating too fast. I find that if I force myself to slow down a little, I start to feel full faster.

That is so true. I have moments like that & I always do the hand off... I hand it off to my fiance who hands it off sometimes back to the fridge. We both are working on our portion control.

Totally true. I used to make dinners that hubby and I would say great leftovers for lunch.....well nope we would eat it. Now I make a large meal. I serve myself from the kitchen and only go back for more if I truly am hungry....my hubby can eat and eat and never gain a pound!
