I recently found out I have cysts on my ovaries. I have two young daughters already, 2 and almost 4 years old. My husband and I have been trying for over a year for our 3rd child with no luck. I have quite a few signs of PCOS, but I'm just looking for more information I guess, from people that actually live with it every day. I have an internal ultrasound today to find out if there are more cysts and what we're going to do for it/about it. I'm just really scared and nervous and don't really have anyone I can turn to for help. Thanks girls

I had an ovarian cyst 12 years ago the size of a grapefruit. I had it removed through lathroscopic surgery. I gave birth to a very healthy baby two years later.

Good god! that's insane.. I've felt two ruptures, from what my doctor says. this is my first ultrasound having to do with this.. I've seriously had nothing but issues from having Mirena, and I'm really praying it didn't screw me up for the long-term. biggest mistake ever

First off, good luck today and I hope everything turns out ok! Definitely don't be afraid to speak up and ask lots of questions. Many doctors forget that patients who are newly diagnosed don't know much about their condition, but will be happy to take the time to teach you if you are proactive about seeking information from them.

I think every woman's experience with PCOS is different. Many women with PCOS don't have cysts at all. I am one of them. But my mom has PCOS and she had cysts. I was diagnosed as a teenager so I've had awhile to adjust. My advice would be to educate yourself as much as possible about this condition, as well as nutrition. With PCOS we are at higher risk of developing diabetes, and we need to be much more strict about healthy eating compared to other women, unfortunately. I've spent a lot of time and energy researching nutrition and have been able to maintain a healthy weight.

Well, congratulations on your two daughters! I hope the 3rd is just around the corner.

PCOS is actually a misnomer, because the 'cysts' are not actually cysts, but unreleased follicles. Many women do get ovarian cysts, of all kinds, so thankfully most of them do not have PCOS. It is typical for a woman with PCOS to have ovaries that are larger than normal (like they are swollen), with lots of 'cysts' around the outside that look like a string of pearls. In order to be diagnosed, you generally need to also have a history of menstrual irregularities and problems with excess androgens, which usually show up as acne, weight around the midsection, hair loss on the scalp, and hair growth in other areas of the body. If you have these issues, push the issue with your doctor- it's common for women to remain undiagnosed for way too long.

Best of luck! Since you have already successfully had 2 children, I have full confidence that you'll succeed with the next one, even if you need a little help. If you do end up having PCOS, there are quite a few of us on here who are happy to support you.
