I CANNOT seem to go above 55lbs for the OHP, and the last time I did, I stalled and had to stop at 3X5. Grr! Any advice?? I'm feeling defeated!

  • It's completely normal to stall on OHP. It's a very tough lift involving a lot of core muscles in addition to your shoulders. A great help is fractional plates. Many people purchase them on Amazon if your gym doesn't have them. No worries, you'll get there!

I went over to the madcow system for the upper body lifts and increased slowly...

I'm the same way with bench press. I could not get above 55 pounds. I had to go back down to just the bar and now I'm going back up with fractional weights (1 1/4 pound)... I did 50 pounds two days, the second time I did an extra rep. And next time I'll go up to 52.5 pounds and hopefully that will help...

Yep, fractionals are the key for me with OHP, bench, and now row. I am now increasing by just 1/2 lb increments on these lifts.

Slow and steady as they say!

I feel your pain--I'm stalling on OH press too and will be deloading on that one shortly. I'll try the fractional weights.

This will be my first week at 40 kg (have done 38 kg for 5 reps already)...a bit worried, but ladies you will get there, if I can lift 40 kg ( 88 lbs) then you can all get here...slow but sure increments...especially the upper body stuff for us gals...
