Not intention weight loss while pregnant

Hi,
So on Friday I had three pregnancy tests tell me I was pregnant. I have not gone to see my doctor yet. I am hoping to get to see her on Tuesday. Here is my concern. On 11/26 I went from being 245 to 250. I wasn't too concerned because my period was due to come on Wednesday so I just thought it was the monthly gain of water weight. 11/30 I find out I am pregnant and the scale says I have lost .5 a pound. I just thought fine that works. This morning it was 242.5. That means I have lost 3.5 pounds in a week (not so great, especially if I am pregnant).
I know I am obese and I am not trying lose weight while pregnant. My husband and I have been trying for a while and I wouldn't do that. I know I have to eat more calories than I normally do. My goal is 1960 every day and I never make it to that. I am usually around 1500. I am never hungry to eat. This has been the problem for a very long time. As a kid I would eat all the time or until someone stopped me because I never felt full. I also never felt hungry. I am a social eater completely. Since 2009 I have gone from 370 to 242.5. That is over 128 pounds. That is was working out and measuring all of my food, so I knew how much I should be eating. I also focused on eating three meals a day, with set calories and if I didn't make it I would eat over 1000 calories at dinner just to get to 1500 or above.

The past two days I have actually had fast food hoping to increase my calories for the day. It helped a little.

It felt good to just say all of this out in the air, but if anyone has advice let me know. Like I said, I am hoping to get into my doctor tomorrow.

With all 3 of my pregnancies I lost 5-10 lbs within the first trimester. I wasn't trying, I was eating normal it was just the way my body was. My dr's have never showed concern over it. During the 2nd trimester I would begin to gain steadily and everything would be normal. As long as you are eating and getting fluids in I wouldn't be concerned about it.

I'm 13 weeks and have lost about 5 lbs since I got pregnant. I found a recommended weight gain chart for pregnancy which I think will show you what is reasonable:
    http://www.baby2see.com/pregnancy_weight_calculator.html

Also, if you're satisfied with the food you have, don't intentionally eat more! The weight will definitely show up once baby starts growing and you don't want to replace healthy habits with overeating! A Dutch study showed that it's actually okay for bigger women (of which I am one) to maintain the same weight their whole pregnancy as long as they are exercising and eating well.

My first pregnancy, I didn't gain any weight until I was 5 months pregnant, but then I gained 50 lbs--so you have to be really diligent :O). Best of luck!

Lots of women losing a bit during the first trimester. Unfortunately not me :( If you are not already underweight, there is no worries.
Also during the first trimester , there is no need for extra calories. Try to shoot for maintainance. Eat nutrition rich food, because you need extra vitamins/ minerals , but not the extra calories(yet)

Thank you ladies!! I am feeling better about this. I am very excited and enjoying everything but the gas and the nausea.

Yes. This. You don't have to intentionally eat more just to get your calories up. Try and aim for maintenance but if you don't hit it, I promise you will be perfectly fine. Even if you ate at a deficit for your entire pregnancy the baby will take what he/she needs, it is you that will suffer (don't do this, though). The weight loss is totally fine and usually very normal in the first trimester. Congrats on your pregnancy, having a baby is the best!

The baby will take what it needs is very true. I was just diagnosed with celiac disease and during my last full-term pregnancy I got very sick but the baby was born fine. (9lbs 11oz) He is a happy healthy 16 month old. I on the other hand was very sick to the point of my heart and brain having problems properly functioning. Now this is an extreme case but it just shows how your body will give up what little it has for your baby. So a few pounds is not bad. As long as you eat healthy and when you are hungry you will be fine. Trust me when the baby starts to need some extra you will know! There is nothing quite like the hungry sensation (starving sensation) of a pregnant woman!

Erin - I am sorry to hear that you had a rough pregnancy. With my last pregnancy I had hyperemesis gravidarum that could not be controlled. This means that I couldn't hold down a drop of food or water. I had to be fed exclusively through PICC lines. I ended up only gaining one pound! However, my boy was 7 lbs 11 oz. Babies have a wonderful way of getting what they need from you.

My first pregnancy I lost 15 pounds my first trimester, and ended up with well above normal weight gain. My second pregnancy I lost 10 pounds during the first trimester and normal weight gain by the end. Now, on my third, I lost 5 pounds first trimester and you'll have to wait a few months to see where I end up....

Edit to add - my first two children are very healthy and active boys age 4 and 6.
