Questions about breasts

In the first trimester I went up a size. Now at 16 weeks, they've slowed down (thank goodness). Will they continue to grow throughout the pregnancy or is the first trimester the major growth spurt? I've been told after birth and during nursing they'll explode.

I ask because I've purchased 1 bra in a larger size and I don't want to buy another in that size if chances are I'll be in another size in a month.....it's getting spendy.

I know everyone's different, curious to your experiences. Thanks :flowerforyou:

Also has anyone successfully breast feed after a reduction and/or lift?

I also went up a size and then stabilized. I've had nipple changes though, and now that I am in my third trimester they're sore again. My nipples seem oily and my aerolas have darkened, which of course is normal. This is my first child but I had the same questions you do - I've read that it's common to go up another cup size or two during the third trimester but I don't think everyone does. I went from a 36C to a 38D, and was told to not buy any nursing bras until the last possible second. I have bought some nursing camis and a size L fits great with room for me to grow, so I think I am going to stick with those until I go back to work and have to pump.

I haven't had a reduction or surgery but I have had my nipples pierced. I haven't worn the jewelry for quite some time and read that I shouldn't have any issues. I imagine surgery is quite different from that though, I think it would only affect breastfeeding if any of the milk ducts were damaged or there is scar tissue blockage, but even so we have multiple ducts and the nipple is more like a sponge with multiple places for the milk to exit.

I went up and up and up (34D-->38DDD). The good news is that they stopped growing around 20 weeks. There was a jump in there from 16 to 20 though, so (just based on my experience), you may want to hold off.

There is no standard answer. I was 34 f/g prior to my first pregnancy and went up a band size and a cupsize to 36 h in first trimester, and nothing for the rest of pregnancy. Once my milk come in, I went up on 1-2 cupsize again to be 36J .
This pregnancy I started 34 hh and I really went up in cupsize and only half a band size. Depend on the brand I can fit into 34j or 36 j. I bought 36 jj nursing bras , and I ally hope I can fit into them , because there are no bigger cupsize in any brand.

    ^This.

I would buy anything you currently need (e.g., if you need one more to get you through your days, then buy one more) but hold off on buying more until you get further along.

Last time I started as a 36D and ended as a 38DD. They didn't really get big until 30 weeks or so, and when my milk *first* came in, they were busting out of my bra. However, they settled down and were able to stay in the bigger bra until I started losing weight, then I was back in my 36D bras.

This time I started out as somewhere between a 34C and a 34D (my boobs had deflated from weight loss and were looking a little sad). I am almost 17w, and almost right away when I got pregnant they grew to fill out, and in certain bras overflow a bit, a 36D bra. I still have my 38DD bras just in case, but I haven't had to jump over to those yet.

I bought nursing bras from Wal-Mart, which are currently 2/$16 (they were 2 for $12 or $13 when I bought mine, but that's still cheap). I would buy them again (and just might if my boobs continue to grow). They're wireless, supportive, and SUPER comfy! http://www.walmart.com/ip/Maternity-Soft-Cup-Nursing-Bra-2-Pack/10250994

I would buy only what you absolutely have to have to get through a week and be ready to buy other sizes as you go through pregnancy. Mine have been different all three pregnancies.

Thanks ladies! I will hold off as long as I can. I was concerned because I'll be traveling for 3-4 weeks without access to stores at the end of second tri/beg of 3rd tri..... But I guess if I pop out , I pop out!

If you have some tank tops, they can help hold you in.

I'm just wrapping up my first trimester and have already purchased a couple new bras. They were from Target. I don't remember the brand, but they are all stretchy, no underwire. I got one in current size and 2 in the next size up. The other two are much too large in the cups, but I can still wear them comfortably. Room to grow is always good.

I used to be a 40DDD and up, had a reduction 2 years ago down to a 38D, then lost 30lbs and was a 36C-. I'm now on my way back up. I had the absolute worst pain in both breasts from week 4-7. I didn't find out I was expecting until week 5, so I thought I had some wicked PMS pain. Turns out all my tissues were swelling and shifting.

My doc left my nipples alone (except for making them higher on my breasts during the reduction). I had been concerned about possible inability to breast feed after having that procedure done and he informed me that as long as I had still maintained sensation in both nipples, I should be ok.

I had also had both nipples pierced horizontally for about 8 years. I have not worn jewelry for 5 years, so I'm not really worried about any damage. Plus, it may just give my milk another avenue of escape!

    Hope that helps.

I've gone up almost 3 cup sizes, and my milk hasn't yet come in. They can grow A LOT. I just bought cheaper bras than my normal high-end Victoria's Secret bras to hold them in as best I can until they go back down (if they ever do).

Depending on your size, the Hanes full coverage bras are very nice for sizes up to DD. I got two of them at Walmart for $14 each, and they have held up very well sofar. I had to go to Playtex once I hit DDD's, and now I'm kinda pushing out of them.

If you are worried about popping out, wear a sports bra over your normal bra to help hold you in until you can go shop.

Just an update... I was still wearing my 36D bras after my 82-lb weight loss, though my boobs were kinda sad, and I probably needed new bras (34C maybe). When I got pregnant they filled up again nicely so that my bras were perfect again, but in the past couple of days I've noticed I am starting to bust out of these! I guess I need to pull out my super comfy nursing bras from my last pregnancy and maybe buy a few more (they were getting worn out from my huge pregnancy gain last time and needing to continue wearing them until I lost weight). They were Wal-Mart cheapies :)

Oh, and I will be 20 weeks tomorrow, in case anyone is wondering (I know rubybeach and I are in similar timeframes).

On a side note to anyone who finds this thread and is looking for information - Your breasts may not grow at all for a really long while. I'm 30 weeks, and haven't had any noticeable growth. I'm leaking a bit of colostrum so I assume they're at least working right, but yeah, I'm still waiting on some growth. Hopefully once my milk comes in I can leave my A-cup behind.

^Lucky you! Mine never lost their initial soreness, though they're much less so than they were at the beginning. Last time I was pregnant, they stopped hurting after the first trimester, maybe even earlier :indifferent:

That blows. I seem to be having the easiest pregnancy in the history of the world. I feel like I'm bragging every time I post anywhere about anything having to do with my pregnancy. Kind of makes me feel like an *kitten*, but I'm grateful. Though, my lack of growth doesn't necessarily mean they don't hurt. I work in a really cold environment so on top of my nipples being erect 24/7 (which is painful enough) I have to deal with the cold adding to it even more :p

Just bought new bras at JCPenney - $19 for two bras (I bought two sets, so four bras), and SO comfy! They only come in S-XL, and you use the little chart to determine your size. (Since I was in-store, I did get to try them on and got an L. I used to be a 36D but have been popping out of those. I think I am more like a 38DD now, which makes sense for L.) They are barely there CustomFlex Fit, and the chart ranges from 32A-48DD. No underwire, either

It was this bra, but for some reason they were regularly $22 for a pair (white and tan or black and tan) in-store at JCPenney but were on sale for $29. http://www.jcpenney.com/dotcom/handbags-accessories/shops/new-arrivals/barely-there-customflex-fit-reversible-pullover-bra/prod.jump?ppId=pp5002111381&searchTerm=barely+there+customflex+fit&dimCombo=null&dimComboVal=null&catId=SearchResults

Mine went from a 34 almost A to a 36B within the first trimester, but haven't really gotten any bigger, nor do hurt anymore (although the nipples do get sensitive at times). I expect them to get a little bigger once my milk comes in (which they say is around 3 days after delivery) but I've also been told that I should get a nice supportive sports/nursing bra to wear to support slightly larger size, but to help prevent them from getting unnecessarily huge (engorgement) once the milk does comes in.

I'm almost 31 weeks and have only gone up 1 cup size, from a B to a C. No major changes here.

I'm not sure how big mine got during my pregnancy but by the third trimester i was popping out of the bra i was still wearing from prepregnancy (36DDD) i wanted to hold off buying one because i wasnt sure how big they'd get post pregnancy and larger size bras are NOT cheap!! its a good thing i did because now im a 36G and the only nursing bras of good quality and of the size i needed i found from Nordstrom...and they're anywhere from $55-85 but i do recommend them to anyone who's looking!
