Hi everyone, I'm six weeks post op and struggling to get the 800 calories in. I think I'm allowed 18 fats? I could get the calories if I go over the fat but don't want to. I'm coming in between 450-650 with plenty of proteins. I'm still on soft foods for the most part, meats gets stuck. I could do another shake but that means i'm only eating once a day and depending on shakes. I'd like to actually eat!!! Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks

That soon after surgery I was still relying pretty heavily on shakes to make my goals. I simply could not eat enough to make the protein goal I had. I didnt worry so much about calories at that point. My doc wanted me to get in at least 70-80 gm protein per day. At 8 months out I still occasionally have a shake. I really should have had one yesterday since I was super busy at not really hungry . I was Way under calorie (less than 700) and less than 50 of protein
Just concentrate on your protein goals for now, the calories will just naturally fall in. At six weeks post op I was barely eating soft mushy foods. Meat will get easier, just make sure that it is very moist and you chew very well. A main staple for me is greek yogurt. It is very easy to eat, sets really well in my stomach and is loaded with protein.
Congrats on all your hard work so far!0 -
Wow!!! Congradulations on having the surgery. I'm having the Roux-n-Y surgery done on Jan. 14, 2013. All I can say is remember what you were taught in class. Did you have to take classes? Kaiser requires us to take classes before we have the surgery. My parents both had the Roux-en-Y surgery done too. Dad lost over 200 lbs. and Mom lost over 100 lbs. I'm doing the protein now so that I will be used to it after the surgery. Vitamin Shoppe has lots of people who can help you, but go to your Doctor first.0

Just starting in on soft foods the last week or so. Some delicious halibut last night, chewed well, went down nice and was such a treat to have a good flavor! Also tried a ground turkey meatloaf... a little bit was good. Otherwise still counting on shakes, cottage cheese, and greek yogurt.0
