Infertility

Hi everyone,
I am new to the group and have been having a really hard time with my PCOS. I was diagnosed in July after years of suffering and infertility and weight gain. I am now undergoing fertility treatments as well as Metformin therapy. Some days are worse than others but the feeling of being "broken" is definitely getting to me. I am trying to loose this weight that I put on, which is why I joined this Site and was excited to see this group. Not that I would want anyone to have to deal with this, but I am glad to have found others who can relate to my struggles. Has anyone else had success with fertility treatments and was the pregnancy normal or difficult?

Hey there,
I'm sorry you're feeling 'broken'. I feel that way sometimes, too. My PCOS affects me a little differently than yours. I'm not overweight but I have bad acne and hair loss. It really takes a lot out of your self esteem, but like any difficult thing in life, some days are definitely better than others. Sometimes I feel better when I think about PCOS being something that was always there before my diagnosis, so the only thing that has changed is that I now have a name for it, and I can seek treatment. So, you are better off now than you were before, even though it's still hard to deal with.
I'm not currently ttc, but I did have one unplanned pregnancy that resulted in a miscarriage, and that was really heartbreaking. But, the treatments available help so many of us achieve success with it. Best of luck. Although we're not exactly in the same boat, you still have support here.0 -
I have had one pregnancy (fingers crossed for a second soon!!). I got pregnant with no fertility treatments but it did take a year. The pregnancy was wonderful, no complications, no issues. I was a very happy pregnant lady! Now that I have a six year old, jumping back into this craziness.0

Hey. I can totally understand the broken feeling you mean... I think it's probably worst when the news are still fresh and when you're in the middle of it all... There's certainly no way of going through treatments and NOT letting it kind of take control of your life and head. The best of luck to you! Most people do end up getting help from treatments.
I was diagnosed about 10 years ago, a year after we started trying for a baby. It took us several years to get proper fertility treatments, which didn't work, and we kind of had to call it a day with them for the time being six years ago. (Other health reasons took over in importance). We're still in our early and mid-30s, so we might well still try more, but not until I've lost all my extra weight! I regret not losing it earlier, though there've been reasons, I suppose.
You're definitely doing the right thing. Losing weight is really the best thing you can do to help your hormones work better. That will mean the fertility drugs will have a better chance at working for you. It can even help you conceive naturally. My cousin (who also has pcos) conceived her firstborn naturally after 3 years of ttc, after she got to a healthy weight.0 -
I have infertility. 1st and only baby was a clomid baby after 3 rounds, I had decided it was to much work planning and test kits and told hubby I was done with it, and found out it worked the last time. This time around 3 months was nothing. I waited and waited, which I probably should of had my kids back to back, but I wanted to spread them apart so they each had their own time as a kid. About 3 years ago I decided I was ready for another one. Haven't been on anything since Ali was 1. Last June (a year and a half ago) I took Clomid for 6 months, it didn't work, so I took a break for a year. I just started femera, I think this is round 2. Feeling like AF is on her way, so I think I am out this month too. I thought 3 months was forever, it's been almost 3 years. Now I am just trying to decide how much more time/money I am willing to spend on this before it takes a toll on me. It's not easy, but you just have to decide how bad you want it I guess. I do have one, and I am reminded of that all the time, but not being able to have a baby weather it's your 1st or your 3rd... is heartbreaking if you want one that bad. PCOS has made life difficult. But if your lucky like I was the first time, it can happen, there are all sorts of options out there, you just have to decide for you how far you want to take it, and how long you are willing to wait. good Luck0

Hello,
I was dignosed with PCOS in 2007. I am 5'7 and was weight 245. After 3 years of trying to conceive nothing happen so we went in to a fertility specialist and I was told to loose weight. I started walking got some lab works done and was diagonised. I manage to loose 20 pound in a month. I was prescribed metformin and two weeks later I was pregnant. The pregnancy was awsome. I delievered in December 2008 and in March 2009 I found out I was pregnant again, not planned but very happy about it. I delivered again in December 2009. Last year in December 2011 we decided to try for out third, I thought it would take years, but I was on metformin and excerising, my last AF was December 7, 2011 and wouldn't you know, On jan 1, 2012 I took a pregnancy test beacuse I was egar to find out, and thank God, I was pregnant again. I am a proud mom of two boys, a 4,3 and a 3 month baby girl. Do not loose hope, be patient. God will know when it is a good time! xoxo0 -
I have had two clomid babies. Many years of clomid and very hard but super easy pregnancies. Worth every second. Check out ovwatch. Worked great for me getting pregnant second time. Pm me if you want to know more.0

I often feel "broken" myself.
I have lost hope many times, but still keep trying. I will be starting a new regimen of meds after the new year, plus I am working on losing about 60 pounds.
I am hoping that this helps control that feeling and tends to my infertility!0 -
I have PCOS and have been TTC since June 2008. We tried on our own for 18mos before getting help. My OBGYN put me on clomid for 3 cycles with no success. Turned out my DH has low sperm count (2 million per cc/ should be 20 million or more). We then went to Shady Grove Fertility and went through two rounds of IVF with ICSI. Again no success. They did not put me on Metformin to regulate my PCOS during treatment which likely had a role to play in our failure.
We have taken the past 16 months off because I gained back the 50 lbs I had lost in 2010 while going through treatment. I am losing it again before I go for my third and final attempt.
I wish you the best of luck in your TTC and weight loss journey.

What was your Metformin dosage? I'm curious what worked for you.Hello,

I am not currently ttc but I know that losing weight before trying is very helpful in terms of conceiving and delivering a healthy baby.0

I have PCOS and it sucks. Have been TTC for 10 years with no luck. They say lose weight and it will help but losing weight with pcos is not the easiest thing to do.
I have been following a low carb plan for a few weeks and have been taking metformin. The weight is coming off and I have lots to go.
I have done several rounds of clomid and even done injectibles and they didn't even produce 1 follicle. I have ovarian drilling, and HSG in 2 weeks. Very nervous about the surgery and recovery but the success rate is high with pcos so It is worth a try. The Dr says that even if it doesn't make me ovulate on my own it will with the drugs.
So I want to lose as much weight as possible in the next 2 weeks and I am hoping for the best with the surgery.0 -
Broken is exactly how I feel. We have had 2 children & as of now have been trying for our 3rd for over 18 months. I've only had my dx since August 2012 & have been on metformin (1500 mg of er version) since September 2012. I've lost 33 lbs & counting since July 2012. I'm hoping that it's just a matter of time before my body decides to cooperate again. Good luck ladies!0

Hey!
I can def relate to the feeling broken thing. I want a child more than anything. I was diagnosed in high school. I have cyst circuling both ovaries, so conceiving...I'd have better luck playing the lottery. I'm not overweight, but I have the unwanted facial hair like you woudn't believe. Being told you are Infertile for me feels like a waste of womanhood and I struggle with that almost everyday, esp living in a place like MN where every womyn is preggo.
Much success to your weight loss goals. I'm always hearing that weight loss is def a good start for us PCOSisters to get preggo.0 -
Going Gluten-Free also helps0

Hiya ladies. Broken is the best way to describe the feeling PCOS leaves. Don't lose hope. It takes Cysters longer, but it is very possible to conceive. I was dx with PCOS while TTC #1. It took 15 months until my son was conceived, and amongst the PCOS community I consider myself fairly lucky. I know people that try for years and years. On the other hand, I know a few that conceived #2 naturally unexpectedly.
My son was conceived on 2000mg Metformin and 50mg Clomid. It was our first round of Clomid and after the u/s I was told I could certainly TTC that weekend, but the chances were slim. Turns out I only had 1 follie that measured 16 and my hormone levels were low. 9 months later...I had a healthy baby boy.
We are now TTC #2. I've been off bcp since August, but because of timing only did the first round of Clomid this cycle. Things are looking up this cycle, so our fingers are crossed. The biggest change from TTC #1 to #2 is, I'm about 30lbs lighter. I'm also eating better, less carbs, fried foods, and sugar. My reducing those elements in my diet helped with the metformin side effects too.
Hang in there, the women in this group know what you are going through. Feel free to add me, please just send a short msg that you are from the PCOS community.0 -
Im 27 and got diagnosed with PCOS in 2009 after my ectopic pregnancy, conceived naturally. I was put on the nuvaring for birth control and after that my whole reproductive system took a turn for the worst. Got PCOS, gained about 70 lbs. I've been through 6 unsuccessful IUI's. Got referred to and IVF clinic and they had to cancel my first cycle as they were in fear of hyper-stimulation.
Going in for my second round in August, trying to lose the weight now.. have 7 more months before my next cycle which is good enough time for me to atleast reduce all if not most of the weight! Your welcome to add me0 -
I have never had a regular period (maybe 1 or 2 per year)and was kind of heavy set. I wasn't trying to conceive and my dr just told me we would deal with my issues when I was TTC. Six months before I was married my fiance and I decided I should go off of birth control so we could start the process of making a baby. We were married in June and in July I was diagnosed with PCOS and started fertility treatments. We spent the next two and a half years trying everything you can think of....Clomid, Metformin, Provera, Prednisone, several different types of injectables, and multiple procedures. Finally after dealing with never responding jumping into to two months of over stimulation and over 60 pounds gained we decided that I would stop taking medicine to conceive. We decided that we would put it in Gods hands whether we would have a biological child or not. We felt that for our situation adoption was the best option for us at this time. But we both agreed to consider fertility again if either of us wanted to try that route again. We hope to adopt in 2013.
Best of luck for those dealing with PCOS and infertility. I would love to have more friends dealing with this.0
