Should I Buy PS3 Or Xbox ?

I got a secondhand ps3(160gb) but find it is freezing badly with 2 of the 3 games I got (skyrim and uncharted).
Is it normal for the ps3 to freeze a lot or have I got a faulty one? I am obviously planning on taking it back.

I would have gone for the xbox 360 as there seems to be more games for it and I prefer the graphics, but I was told that it only takes a small jolt to damage the lazer/interrupt the game, and I have rather rickety floors.

Advice?

Really wanted a gaming console other than my ps2 for sometime, but am really disappointed so far in the ps3 with the freezing, and the graphics on skyrim.

there's something wrong with that ps3 then, been playing skyrim for hours and no freezes.

And i think it depens on your gaming style. PS3 has more rpg (final fantasy, etc) where xbox has more online and FPS games. So if its a type of game, or a specific game you like, then pick that platform.

Im a PS3 gamer, but thats because our family loves RPG, final fantasy, etc type games and we've never ever played online thru psn and dont do FPS, but i have friends who do and love their xbox.

Its not the console as much as its the games you want to play.

I have both and have found that we only use the xbox for the Kinect, and my son has Skylanders on it. Skyrim works great on my PS3 but I did have issues before I downloaded the patches.

I like final fantasy style games, and also Kingdom Hearts, some racing games, like the look of Uncharted too.
I guess this must be a faulty PS3 as the games were freezing and repeating immediately.

We have PS3, XBOX and WII.
The best thing about XBOX is that you can voice chat without being in the same game.
The best thing about PS3, is that it is very quiet so it is better to be in your living room as a DVD player and streaming device.

WII is for babies and old people.

75% of the games out there are available for both, and PS3 doesn't charge a monthly fee to play online.

Personally I would go for the PS3 because they have a wider variety of games available. The Xbox seems mainly pigeonholed into racing games, sports games, first person shooters, and inferior ports of PC games. With PS3 you have things like RPGs as well.

The fact is most of the games available for both systems, excluding novelties like kinect games, are also available on the PC and PC versions are always superior. As someone who owns a PC capable of playing these games, I would want something that had a wider variety of non-PC copies/ports, and that is undoubtedly the PS3. There is _nothing_ the Xbox has, aside from the kinect, that the PC doesn't have better. PS3, I can't make that claim.

Do you own a PC that isn't a bottom-of-the-barrel model? If so, you'll be happier with a PS3 because it can do more that your PC can't. If not you might be happier with the Xbox because the Xbox seems to do a better job than the PS3 of "trying" to be a PC.

Although you could potentially be waiting till Nov/Dec '13 or longer till they come out.

    Thanks for the responses.
Out of interest, am I better getting a new model than, for example, one of the older 60gb ps3s?
I know the 60gb ones are backwards compatible, but also heard they are noisier and less reliable... but they seem to be more solidly built and harder to come by secondhand.

As someone who's owned one of the older PS3's from when it first came out I can say from experience that it is very reliable and not that noisy. I believe mine is the 80gb and I frequently play my psx and ps2 games on it.

The only issues I've had with it are it's wireless connectivity [for updates/and to watch netflix] but I think that is mostly do to my internet provider and not the PS3.

    Hope this helps?

Interesting, I heard that only the 60gb ones were backwards compatible?
I love the Final Fantasy series, and Kingdom Hearts, which would be the main reason the older 60gb appeals to me, that and the build is more solid. I doubt I would watch many blue rays anyway so I dont suppose the fan noise would be too great an issue. I might give that a go if they still have one in.

I'm Xbox 360 all the way for Halo and Gears of War if nothing else. I also play Skyrim on mine and have no problems. Paying for multiplayer sucks though.

I would like to mention that most of the games worth playing online do require you to buy a "one time fee" online pass. I loved PSN before I figured this out.

    I love Xbox, I love PS3.

XBOX chat is so much better, and joining games is easier then the ****ty friend system on PS3.

PS3 I only had glitches on AC3 and Black Ops 2. I am level 13 on the trophies, and I can say out of the 85+ games I have beaten on PS3 - little to 0 freezes. Also, I have had 2 playstations (sold the first one) compared to the 6 xboxs I have had (5 broke).

PSN gives out TONS of free games, I have at least 25 that they have given free - and their deals on games far beats Xbox any day.

Why do I have an xbox again? Oh yeah, Halo. Gears, and Fable. Thats it haha.
