40s & weightloss

I was curious if anyone here has noticed the scale slow down after hitting 40? I have pcos, I can blame that but I have been working out pretty hard lately (43 next mnth) and the scale isn't being too nice. I might be in a stall but does anyone know if it has changed once hitting that number? Thx for sharing.

I started having an issue with weight loss when I had a hysterectomy at 30. I think the lack of hormones had something to do with it. Before that, my weight was easy to drop when I tried but after the hysterectomy, things changed a lot!

My scale hasn't done anything that I didn't make it do =). I have had a couple of stalls here and there in my year long reduction but if I look back, its because I was stalling in my xercise or I was putting too much garbage in. It was mostly the beer in the summer! ;)

I feel the same way, but I've also gone through a change in my life right around the same time, so I don't know what to blame it on, lol. Right after I turned 40, I sold my house, was homeless/camping for a month and then moved back to my home town where my family loves to feed me and enjoy drinks with me, so I gained back 19 out of the 25 pounds I had lost on MFP and kept off for a year. So I don't know if it's harder because I'm 41 now than when I was 38 & 39 and lost and kept off the 25 pounds, or if it's simply because I have more pressure now and cave in more often, or both! I've lived here for over a year now and I'm having a hard time trying to get back down to where I was before I moved. It seems that every time I lose a pound I gain back 2 pounds, so my scale is going in the wrong direction for sure! Not to mention, I did break 2 toes in July, which resulted in nerve damage that still has not healed, so I'm under doctor's orders to scale back on exercise until the healing process is complete. I guess the odds are just against me.

According to Dr. Oz after 40 your metabolism winds down 5% every 10 years, which means you have to consume fewer calories and work out more just to maintain your normal weight.

I'm 43... once I hit 40 it was much harder to lose weight. I use to maintain/lose weight just walking... long walks. Now I have to really exercise to lose. I go to the gym and I've learned to run too! You can do it, I just find it harder after 40!
