New Vegan!

I've always been a person who didn't really love the taste of meat, so I've been a pseudo-vegetarian most of my life because of my tastes. But, I was recently informed of all of the terrible, crazy, AWFUL facts regarding the food industry and primarily the production of animal products and, after crying for about 2 days, I am a newbie vegan! I just had no idea. I don't understand how anyone who is informed enough would ever buy/eat that stuff anymore. It's so sad. :(

Anyway, I've also come from a home of fast food and microwave dinners (sadly), so even though I'm nearly 25, I don't really know how to cook! I'm very firm on this new lifestyle and I know that if you don't do it properly and pay attention, you can be a bit malnourished. I want to learn! What are your favorite recipes/things to eat? I am on a bit of a budget, but I'm definitely open to new things as long as my insignificant kitchen prowess won't hinder me! You can also friend me if you want!

Show me the way! I'm like a baby giraffe who can't use her legs yet! (Hahah. I'm sorry. I will stop now.)
Thank you in advance! :)

Welcome to the vegan world! My husband and I have learned about the horrors not only that happen to your body but what happens to animals and, after 23 and 22 years of meat eating, we have tossed it all away and have now started to eat only fruits and veggies. (We started the beginning of October, 2 weeks before our wedding!)

The cheapest thing I have made, thus far, is my own pasta and sauce. The pasta all it is is flour, a little salt, and water! The pasta sauce is tomatoes, garlic, onion, and seasonings like basil, oregano, and thyme, with pepper to taste (try to cut but on the salt!). I think the most I spend on that meal is $7 for the sauce I already had most the spices and that's where it can get expensive.

Google is my friend, there are so many recipes on there (that's where I found the pasta and the sauce recipes). I've found a potato soup recipe that I'm going to try and my husband's cousin has been a vegan for 7 years and has shared her butternut squash recipe with us!

:-D I shall send you a friend request and will try and send you any good recipes I find and how much it cost me to buy everything for it!

For the two of us, for the week Sunday to Friday, we spent $87...but we also bought all organic.

Yay! Thank you! I've never made pasta before. Sounds... difficult? Haha. Maybe not though. I do love me some pasta! :)
  • I have been veggie for 23 years and am currently doing week long vegan pledges to ease the transfer over (big cheese fiend here!) .. I am not that good that I make my own pasta! (Scunningham20 you angel!! lol) but for meal ideas etc you are more than welcome to add me as a friend and have a nosey at my diary..have a few vegan friends on my profile too.

    Good luck!
