Squat form check

I'm 174lbs. And I just got done doing a set at 275lbs for a 5 count. I wanted to see my form so I had a guy film me and I just went ahead and did teh 275lbs again for a single. I always thought I bent over too much (back angle but it looks okay). Yes I didn't really get down way into the hole but I saw my butt dip.

Crappy video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej7jZ4dJsuU&feature=youtu.be Old dude that filmed (my iPhone) was not a techie

Don't ask me why I jump around like that before I squat. It's just me trying to psych myself into thinking the weight is lighter.

Comments welcome

    Was that a smith machine?

Not sure of the name. It's a machine yes. But it's NOT limited in the angle. You can go back/orth and up/down freely. The only motion that is restricted is a twisting motion where the bar could turn on it's axis. (like a fan)

alot of forward lean there, but your back remains nuetral.

    a few things
knees out! push em out on decent and keep them there.
chest up!! you need to keep your torso more upright. "cranking" your elbows helps here.
keep tight!! you are not getting or keeping tight when you begin. i can tell because you are jumping around all over the place...
deep breath into your guts, keep it there, and keep everything tight in your entire torso(get psyched before you take the weight :) ). I find squeezing the bar and actively pulling it onto your back as if trying to bend it over yourself helps.
and lastly, you probably need to sit back a bit more.

can you not use a free weight BB?

I'm usually trying to gulp in more air and tighten up while I'm bouncing up/down.

The Y doesn't have a free weight rack ALTHOUGH I could just sit a bar bar in that rack. But since this machine doesn't tie me down much, I tend just to use it.

After looking at it again it kinda looked more like a good morning, you need to try to keep that chest up. besides that everything looked okay

Not really. Good mornings, you don't bend your legs at all.

I guess when dumping my butt into the hole, I'll have to make sure to lean back a touch to keep my back more upright. I think that's why the weight feels so heavy

Honestly I struggle with the same form you have there. Focusing really heavily on holding my but, core and chest tight really helps.

I cant tell on the vid where your head/eyeline is, but are you making sure to keep your head high and looking above your eyeline the whole time? That helps to keep me from slouching.

I can keep my back straight and yes, I do look up while lifting.

Just that my back angle gets too severe.

My back won't start bowing until the 315lbs+ range.

1 - It's not to parallel, a few inches high in fact. Your back is neutral yes but I can almost guarantee it would round if you tried to get to proper depth
2 - You really need to stop the giggling about after you unrack the weight, your whole body needs to be tight to perform a heavy squat, that's upper back, core everything. You are risking a serious injury if you start doing that with really heavy weights.

Get tight and do all that stuff BEFORE you unrack it, step back and squat.

Can't say anything about the bar placement as you can't see where it is on that video.

The actual movement it's self doesn't look bad at all, if you could replicate that to proper depth I would have no issue with it.

Yes it's a few inches high but I just got done doing a 5 rep before and I wasn't sure how I'd feel on this one. It was actually easy.

It would not round if I went a few inches lower. It's not that heavy.

But thanks for the critique. It's a good about getting tight before the lift.
