So...How has week 1 of 2013 been?

We officially have the first week of 2013 in the books. How was it? Are you still picking up momentum or are you starting to get overwhelmed and lose steam? How are we gonna keep this up for the rest of our lives?
Personally, I am doing great so far. I am so motivated by the fact that my hubby and my mom are doing this with me. For me, 99% of it is a mental game and until I get my head on right, I have trouble being successful. For the first time in a really long time I feel like, "I got this."
This group has been so motivating for me. Being the only really big girl in my family and among my circle of friends, it's really hard for them to understand. Like when we are at the gym and my 130 pound aunt is telling me to just speed up and up the incline and I would burn more calories. Hello, I am carrying the equipvalent of you and your husband on my back while I walk on this treadmill.
Keep up the great work girls and if any of you are losing steam, let us know. We are all here to lift each other up. I am always looking for new MFP friends, so if you need some encouragement (or just want a friend) add me!

The first part of my week was a struggle trying to get my family on board (especially the pre-teen). But now that we are on the same page, it will be so much easier for me. Now it feels like a lifestyle instead of a diet.
This group has been really cool. Us really bigger girls have different challenges than the sorta bigger ones. So it's great to come here and find other people who are struggling with the same ones that I am!
Hope everyone has a great week!!!!0 -

Ha! I couldn't help but laugh at this one. Last night on LMN (Lifetime Movie Network) they were showing Lying to be Perfect starring Poppy Montgomery (http://youtu.be/krG91OEJg_M) which I thought was perfect timing and certainly inspirational even if none of the ladies were carrying off the fat suits that well. It's good to have such a good sense of humor.
I feel bad for you that you are the odd duck though and hope that MFP is giving you the support you need because gosh darnit, hearing that from someone who doesn't have a lick of understanding of what it's like to be carrying around the extra weight can be toxic after a while.
Keep up the good work and if you need a boost, I highly recommend watching that movie!0 -

The first part of my week was a struggle trying to get my family on board (especially the pre-teen). But now that we are on the same page, it will be so much easier for me. Now it feels like a lifestyle instead of a diet.
Bringing a resistant family on board with eating better and exercising is not unfamiliar to me. However, getting everyone on the same page hasn't been as big of a deal for me because of the complexities in everyone's diet. My husband is lactose intolerant and is sensitive to egg yolks. My youngest (I have twin boys) also has a sensitivity towards milk (he's learned to know his limits). My oldest reported to the doctor a few years ago that he was falling asleep in class after lunch so after extensive testing that included a blood glucose test, we learned he, the skinniest in the family, was pre-diabetic. Luckily we got that whipped into shape by severely reducing his sugars (he's a sugar fiend for sure) and put him on a special diabetes packet of vitamins which reduced his blood sugars enough to put him into a normal range again. What it all boils down to is we virtually have a short-order style meal/diet thing going on here, meaning that it's not uncommon for all of us to sit down at the table (which we do nightly) with different meals on every plate. But give my husband any idea that I'm trying to diet and out come the donuts, the ice creams, the rich, sugary crap.
Kudos to you in making a lifestyle change that moves away from the dieting aspects. I think that's the key to success and I wish you (and will support you) the best as you endeavor!0 -

This group is great!!!0 -
Doing great! I walk the dog and do 30ds each day, and today im starting c25k, I feel so energised and motivated.
My family are pretty supportive. Mum sits with the girls and watches while I do 30ds. My toddler will do the warm up and some of the exercises with me, the baby sits on my belly for the situps I take the toddler when I walk the dog and mum watches the baby. When I start c25k tonight it will be just me while hubby has the kids. I do get some comments from them while im working out, ranging from "you can do it" from the toddler to "cant you go faster" from hubby, lol.
Food wise I eat what I want as long as it fits my calories.0 -
It's been ok. Apparently, I haven't been eating enough calories and it's keeping me from losing weight. I have gone out to eat twice but both times managed to stay within my calorie allowance. I haven't had any fast food in 2013 and this week I started cutting out sodas. I'm only exercising 3x/week because I'm recovering from a lisfranc fracture. I have a feeling that's affecting my weight loss as well. I've always heard that someone who has a lot of weight to lose, loses it fast in the beginning. But that doesn't seem to be the case for me and it's frustrating.0

The first part of the week was good -- but for the past few days I've been in a little plateau. However, I think I figured it all out, so I should hopefully start losing again soon. I was keeping my calorie intake the same, but not adjusting for the increase in exercise. But I finally have everything sorted.
Besides that, it has been a great week. I've been under my calories now every day for the past month, and I've exercised every day besides my rest day. It is hard to get the motivation to get off my butt sometimes, but after I do it I am so glad I did!
Hope everyone has a great week!0 -
my loss was really slow when my calories were too low. As soon as I put them up it took off again. I eat back most of my exercise calories as well. Weightloss is 80% food and 20% exercise, so look to your diet first0

Doing great!
Wow! It sounds like you have an excellent support system and a really great approach/mindset to this plan. Keep it up!0 -
So far so good. Down 5 pounds and I have exercised probably 4 or 5 days (Nothing really intense but some is more than none, which is my norm!)
I loved the bit about walking on the treadmill with two people on your back! Hilarious!0 -
We rock girls! I am so proud of all of us!0

I'm doing well! I have walked at least a mile (usually 2, one day 3!) every day except the one with snow (and a migraine!) and Sunday (busy with church and family). I have stayed under calories (some days maybe too low?!!?!?). I feel pretty good. And I had my first weigh in today and I lost 2 1/2 pounds0

I'm doing OK too. Things have gone pretty well until today really. My problem is not being able to say no.....we had to run an errand this afternoon and everywhere we went were fast food restaurants just yelling my name! I made it without giving in to the fast food, but then when I got home well, sure I ate healthy stuff, but even healthy stuff is bad for your calories when you eat 4 or 5 things instead of just 1. :noway: I'm just a compulsive eater I guess; eating whether I'm hungry or not just because it's there!! Boredom? I was a little hungry, it was almost dinner time, but I guess where I goofed is that I didn't sit down and have a meal, I just kept snacking and snacking!
So you see where I need to focus....I just love to eat!! How do you give up food?? :ohwell:
Seriously though, I will be back on track tomorrow!!0 -
 This week has had more sucesses than failures. I have only been with MFP for a little over a week and it really helps to track your food, every bite. Also having friends on here to help motivate you is awesome. :flowerforyou: I am hoping for a great second week. Good luck everyone!0

Week 1 was pretty good for me. I managed to lose 3 pds (even with TOM here). I have made some minor changes and discoveries already this week. Am taking notes, and will be making more changes as needed, but am def feeling like I have this this time around even if there are some issues along the way.
Good luck to everyone. We can all do this. One meal at a time.0 -
I've surprised myself with how well I've done this week, I've managed to stay under my calorie count every day and have already lost 1kg - yay me! In the past I've caved by about the 5th day and ripped through the first packet of chips I could get my hands on. My kids all had chocolate tonight after dinner (meanies!) and I didn't even want it (too badly anyway lol), I just had some fruit and yogurt instead. I am on holidays at the moment though, so I think the real test for me will be when I go back to work and I don't have as much time to prepare healthier meals, the stress starts again and I feel too tired to exercise - that's when I'll have to really be tough on myself.
By the way, congratulations to us all, it seems like nearly all of us have lost some weight already, and we all seem to be on the right track so far - let's keep it up ladies0 -
Sounds like everybody is doing good. Yay for us!!! Today is day 13 & I have been staying motivated. Hubby is helping me a lot by making sure we have healthy food in the house. Cutting out the cokes have been the hardest thing. I decided to have a coke 2 days ago. Only had one, it was a nice treat. I finally weighed in today.....Lost 11.5 lbs....I'm so excited. I know a lot of that is water weight & I won't see that much of a lost every 2 weeks....tho I can wish:bigsmile:0

This week has been rough. We had basketball five nights since last Friday. We had Faith Formation one night. I feel like I can't squeeze in one more thing, and my exercise has been suffering...although I had a great workout today scrubbing my floor. The good news is I have stayed within my calories. I am just feeling a little low right now.0

I've lost some, but I have not been exercising. Like, at all. Working night shift is throwing me for a loop. My boyfriend has one more week at home before he is out of town for work for 5 months, and all I wanna do is spend time with him. =(0
-
Oh, the night shift is a tough one. I have been working nights on the weekends, this time, since September. They have hired someone, finally, but it has been a long stretch. I have figured out a few modifications but would love to brainstorm more ideas on how to handle the eating, sleeping and exercise challenges that go along with third shift.0

Ok its been pretty good..lost some weight..yay! But had to much pizza last night! yiiiks! but today is a new day. Looks like alot of you are doing well, keep it up..we can do this...hugs Wanda0

Amen! I think I will probably be a little more motivated to exercise without Josh in the house all the time. We don't have kids, but we have a dog that is MORE high maintenance than I believe a child would be. She would probably try to bite me through workout DVD's or jump on the treadmill with me. We live way way way out in the country, so maybe we could go for a walk or something.0
