2013 race schedules

Options
I thought it would be cool to put our 2013 anticipated race calendars in one thread. That way we can motivate each other to train for/participate in more events and perhaps learn about a few races we were not yet aware of. Set your goals early so that you have time to properly train! The only race I ran in my life prior to the beginning on this year was a 5k on 12/1/12.

Here is my 2013 anticipated schedule so far (with more to be added later):

1/1/13
Polar Dash
10K

1/14/13
Meet of Miles
1 mile indoor

2/9/13
Valentines Day TC 5K:
5K

3/16/13
Get Lucky
Half Marathon

6/2/13
Minneapolis Marathon
Marathon

10/6/13
Medtronic TC Marathon
Marathon

    You are super organized.

I am signed up for the Mother's Day 5K at Como Lake, the Color Run in July at the Fair Grounds, and the YWCA Triathlon in August.

I'll probably add a few more along the way- especially in anticipation for the Tri!

The Minneapolis Half Marathon is the day before my birthday and I was tempted to do it, but I am NOT a runner (yet). How much training do you guys suggest to do any of these runs?

Maybe start with MDRA. I think they have a listing of most major running events in MN each year.
    http://www.runmdra.org/

There are many other websites with free race listings as well:
    http://www.runningintheusa.com/race/List.aspx?State=MN
    http://www.roadracerunner.com/Races/RunningCalendar.aspx?state=mn
    http://www.northlandrunner.com/run?page=Calendar

I cant speak to which of the above listings is most comprehensive, but there seem to be many events in Northern MN each year. I would bet there is a running club in your area that would have all the information you are looking for.

I know about getting any started but I usually use www.active.com to search for races so you could try that as well. How up north are you?

If you have a comfortable base... like I was running about 3 miles a day 3-4 days a week.. i did a 10-12 week program to train for my first half. If you want to take longer and repeat weeks as you get comfortable maybe add a couple weeks.

This is very similar if not the same as the one i used: http://www.halfmarathons.net/training_tips_schedule_beginner_runners.html

If you're willing to drive to Rochester, MN...there is a women's only "Spring Fling Diva Run" on 4/28. I did it last year (it was my first and only 5k...i felt like i was going to die) but it was super fun and the course is beautiful!!

Sounds like fun but I'm going to stick to the one in November. That one is only 10 min from my house. The farther I have to travel the less likely I am to run it. I'm weird that way.

I did the Diva Dash last year - so fun -- I like the Glo Run idea (have a friend in Dallas that did that! intriguing!) My plan is to do all the ones you have listed!

Fairly certain that no runs are tax deductible unless you are raising a significant amount of money over the general cost of running a race- and then the donor would get the write off (well, as long as Congress allows donations to nonprofits to remain tax deductible). It is assumed that you are receiving goods and/or services in running a race which is offset by the fee to participate. (I work in nonprofit fundraising, but am no expert, so check with your tax preparator to be sure).

Love the idea of keeping up with 2013 races James! But I think with the way the threads are set up, everyone will have to do tons of scrolling or paging to find common races. I say let's set up separate topics for each race, what do you think?

Upon reflection, I think you are right! Another big problem with this thread is that you cannot go back to edit a message that you previously posted (to update your race schedule). It would seem silly to have to make a new post each time you want to add a race. Sorry everyone!

Well if I get my butt training and sign up for these we should run them together. We could also get Amber (mrskendle) and Jackie (apple2jacks) to run with us.

Unfortunately you only have an hour to go back & edit anything you post. It's weird. But I'll go out & start threads for my races if they haven't been started already!

o ok- so the tshirts you get is basically what you are "buying" then ...you arent donating to a cause?? I guess thats what I thought all of these were.....
