Breastfeeding and stomach fat?

I've been trying to find more information on the correlation between breastfeeding and storing stomach fat.

I was reading something a few months back that said that stubborn stomach fat could be sticking around because the hormones in your body due to breastfeeding keep it there to protect your ovaries? I'm open to all ideas, honestly. I know you can't spot reduce and that it'll take time, but I'm nervous that I'm pushing myself to attain the unattainable at this point!

I've heard that too. It's important to have a higher fat diet and to eat enough calories while breastfeeding for this reason. After consistently meeting whatever your body needs it will start to let go of those fat stores. I can't tell you that magic amount though. Wish I could, it'd make this losing weight thing a lot easier. Some people still can not lose past pre-pregnancy weight.
  • I wish I could help. I tried to research breastfeeding and weight loss and it seems like there is a lack of information out there. I lost weight while breastfeeding but then I plateaued for like 6 or 7 months. I stopped breastfeeding at the end of Oct and my clothes say I have lost weight but the scale still shows the same number. Good luck.
  • My OBGYN told me your body will typically hold on to the last 10 lbs until you're finished breastfeeding. She said something very similar to what you said - that hormones are to blame, wanting to hold onto that fat. I know everyone is different but my stomach fat was the first to go, and my hips & thighs is where my body stored my fat... I think it has a lot to do with your genetics.

I do thing that breastfeeding you may not able to lose the last little bit.
However, I do not think that the location of the fat has anything to do with breastfeeding.
Some people have apple shape and they have a hard time losing the stomach fat.
Others who have hourglass or pear shape have different problem areas: butt and thighs.
I am only 3 weeks postpartum, and I already have a very definite waisline. My waist is 34 ", and shrinking astonishing speed like 1" per week, while my but is 47" and it won't budge until I lose significant weight.
I gained 60 lb during pregnancy and only lost 22 so far. However I think everything pound I lost so far is from my stomach. I bet in a month or so I 'll have a waistline around 30", but my butt will stay the same :(
