Pretty Upset

So, the past two weeks I've had people harping on me NON-STOP about my closed diary to the point I felt the need to update my "About Me" section in order to explain why my diary is closed.

I have been tracking my negative reactions to food (and we all know what those can be) in the "notes" section.... and what in the he!!? People are, three months later, bagging on me because they want to see my diary with all of that in it??

I've had everything from nasty notes on my page, to private messages being extremely rude and inconsiderate.

Does anyone else keep their diary private for the same reason I am or ... I mean, does it make sense that I'd want to keep that private?

It seems people that don't have this issue have no idea what we go through.....

Funny, this site is about support. Not berating..... odd that a simple closed diary can bring out the ugly in some people....

Some people are under the false assumption that whatever you put out there on the internet is open for their scrutiny, otherwise it wouldn't be out there. So, when you don't let these busybodies know ALL your business, then you can expect them to be upset with you for not allowing them the chance to criticize you -- because that's what insecure, unhappy people do when they lack a real life.

Don't for a second bend to their demands. Keep doing what you're doing, and documenting whatever you want. Ignore the haters, they have their own issues to deal with.

Mines open but that's because I have people who like to see what I cook with a limited diet. However i have friends who are closed and that is their prefernce - its your diary not the worlds and you should be able to do what you like with it.

I do not see why people care if your diary is open or not. I think people just enjoy being high and mighty. It is a bully mentality that is apart of our culture. People certainly want to read my celiac symptoms and it makes sense that you are tracking them. I would block anyone with a negative attitude.
  • That's ridiculous that your MFP friends are so critical. You should be able to keep your diary private and shouldn't have to defend yourself. I'd say definitely unfriend the people who are being so mean but maybe also post something on your profile along the lines of "I keep my diary private for a reason, please do not keep hounding me about making it public, this is not something that is going to change. If you have a problem with that, then defriend me now". Good luck.

I honestly never pay attention to whether a diary is opened or not. The only time I look at a diary is when someone asks me to look and see where they could make changes.

Yeah, try not to stress about it. It's your diary, so your choice. I had mine private for a long time and then open to friends and now just open. But, I don't really have much in the way of notes in my diary. I keep a separate spreadsheet with additional information, charts, etc. I've never had any comments on mine one way or another. Part of it, I think, depends on how active you are in the general forums or if you ask many questions.

That's pretty much what I did..... actually felt quite empowering to do so, and interestingly I've had some friend adds today since I changed it! LOL

You shouldn't be forced to have an open diary--it's your tracking system, not theirs. MFP is supposed to be about support and encouragement, not criticism. You have to do what works for you and remember that.

I like to look at my friends' diaries because I am curious and always like inspiration for new things to try, but if someone's is closed, I just think, "Eh. Oh well," and move on to the next thing. I would never try to pry or make someone feel bad for not letting me see their food choices. I'm surprised so many people have been awful to you about that. Weirdness.
  • Mines private cause it's for me to track my food and my calories.
I saw a post before about people making nasty comments about the amount of calories and the food being eaten by this one girl.
Why the hell they felt the need to waste their time doing this is beyond me.
I think too many people think they are an expert at everything and feel it's their right to know what every one is doing and just so they can make troll like comments on it.
And that is probably what they, are trying to bring you down cause they enjoy it.

I've noticed that your diary is closed, but I figured you had your reasons. It's crazy that people are giving you heck about it, I mean really, what real concern is it of theirs?
