Okay I like the idea of functional training because it helps us with everyday movements in life with home, kids and work etc. Better movement means less injury and better efficiency in movements! try one of these exercises!

I read the article (can't check out the videos right now, those are no no sites for work) and I started to get a little worried because they were talking about working the muscles you "use." I worried about this as I continued to read because my understanding through dance and the training I've been doing it's about training all the muscles because of how they connect and work together. The article did towards the end discuss working the "nonfunctional" muscle to restore a weak link.
I will admit I agree with some parts of this and disagree with some parts of this, I believe that the body needs to be strengthened as a whole not as a bunch of functional and non functional parts. It may truly be that I'm not understanding what the writer is saying, so I will have to research the topic a little more for better understanding of what the writer is saying.0 -
If you want to know the proper movement for something , particularly for picking things up, watch a toddler do it. Nine times out of ten they have the best form. It has something to do with the first learned method usually being the most efficient method.0

I too was only able to read the article. My interpretation of it is kind of like the old argument that the only way to get better at pushups is to actually do them and to be a better runner you actually have to run from time to time. This is because, although a bench press and a treadmill are similar, they are also slightly different in the muscles (and intensities) they work. I too will need to look into it a little deeper.0
