How do you get yourself back on track, ladies? :)

Hiya! I've been meaning to post my weight-loss story in full here for motivating others, but lately haven't felt worthy to do that.

I've slipped into a bit of a rut with chocolate binges in the evenings of the past week. I always promise myself that the next day will be different, the next day I'll be better. So the day comes and I make better choices until the evening: I brought back to uni a tonne of chocolate from Christmas and I've just been gorging on it lately. I just feel sick with myself because of it. Right now I have a chocolate headache; it's TOM; I feel guilty, sick and just annoyed at myself for doing it.

I think I have enough motivation and willpower to get back on track PROPERLY tomorrow, but I was just wondering how you all pick yourselves up after a relapse? It might be nice for us to share our ideas. Also thank you for being a place full of friendly girls I really thought I could post my feelings to tonight. I couldn't tell anyone else this or write it on my MFP profile... Learning to love yourself is hard sometimes, right?

M x

    Megin, you are an inspiration.

We all have had relapses, and I think its just a part of the territory, as well as Holidays!

What i do, is I weigh myself the day after a binge day.
It gives me the motivation to get out and exercise, and work it off.

I still have chocolate every other day because I too came home with chocolate after christmas, but I always put it into my days calorie count, and remotivate myself to keep going the next day!

Just keep telling yourself what you want, and you will get there :)

I haven't allowed myself to fall into temptation, but I know that is on the road...
I know I haven't binge on chocolate mainly because I don't have any in my house, the closest thing is cola cao, like nesquick. So, I "drink" my chocolate when I feel desperate.

But I think Anna's idea is good, weigh yourself the day after... I get so many good tips here!

Thank you for the replies! Feeling so much better today; just so refreshed and optimistic :)
  • As stated before me, I think that getting off track is part of the journey! The biggest thing you have to learn is to NOT beat yourself up about it and dwell on it - and sometimes, that's the hardest thing. Accept that it does happen, but try not to let it happen TOO often!

When I fall off the bandwagon and eat an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's (yup.. it happens) I begin planning my day tomorrow. I plan out all my meals, schedule my workout and plan what I'm going to do, and have two HUGE water bottles in the fridge that I tell myself I have to drink tomorrow. Thinking about the next day makes me feel more optimistic, and makes me focus on the future and NOT the past!

Agreed with above! I also recently read an article that even if you have a SUPER splurge/screw-up day where you eat 3500 calories +, it's not gonna screw up your weight loss. Taking a couple days off is ok, and I think it's really important to have a healthy attitude and be kind to yourself about it. :)
