My first week is done kind of with a 3 pound loss. i say kind of because I started mid week and still took the fun-day on Saturday even though I only had a few days in. I am really enjoying the plan so far even if some things have confused me a bit. i haven't gotten too much into the exercise as much as Chris suggests but I am getting there by baby steps. Part of this is an injury but a big part is laziness. there is no excuse for me not to do weight work on my body machine on low carb days. Shredders i can't do yet. However I can do yoga or something. So no more excuses!!!!!! Being lazy won't get me in shape will it?

I was thinking of an event this summer. If i I could maintain 2 lbs a week that would put me around a 52 lb loss. . I could handle that! I'd have more to go but i sure can handle that!

3lb loss is awesome!!!! Especially since you started mid week & still had a fun day!!! Good for you!!! You must be doing something right!!! I was confused on a few things too, but I'm already getting better at it & it's getting alot easier. Making that list for the week & pre-planning each & every meal really makes it easy for me, I don't have to think about anything, just refer to the list.

And yes, definately try & work in an exercise routine. I'm not following the shapers & shredders in the book, just doing my own exercise routine - alot of walking & JM's Ripped in 30 for now, might change it up as I go....doesn't matter as long as I'm exercising. If you like Yoga, I would definately recomend Jillian's Yoga Meltdown. I really like it & it's effective. Wow!! a 52lb loss by summer would be fantastic & it's totally obtainable!!!! You can do it!!!!

I would also chime in here and say 3 pound loss is really awesome. I don't do the shapers or shedders either. I am doing JM's 30 day shred. Still on level 1 but like because it is quick and fast. Not easy but getting better at it. I am trying to mix it up with other dvds as to increase my endurance and burn more calories. I don't think it matters what you do as long as you do something and pick something you will like so you will stick to it. I think once you keep seeing the progress it will motivate to go further.

    Good luck to you.

Great way to start the program.

We are here cheering for you.

  • A 3 pound loss is great! Every single pounds counts toward the end goal. I need to lose @ 130 but if I think of that large number it seems so far away but if I concentrate on a smaller number (mines 10) is it so much more achievable. I only have to lose 10 pounds 13 times!!!! :)

I haven't added exercise yet either. I am still adjusting to getting my meals right. I am an outta the box type of cooker at the moment, and it takes longer for me to make meals for a family of 4 when I have to think about what I can eat and then make it. lol

You are doing great! Keep it up!

Thanks everyone. i was pleased with three. i once saw seven on low carb but that doesn't matter because I just can't stay on it and gained all my weight back with some nasty friends along for the ride. I can totally see this being easy to do forever! I'm trying to figure out exactly how to do it on our vacation and cruise next month. I will figure it out! I think i may change funday for the trip so I get funday while on the ship.

Carrie that is a great way of looking at it! I like the 10 lb idea! I REALLY like the way you look at it.. if i could maintain 2 lbs a week that would put me at 173 by the July event. That would still give me a good ways to go but any loss is a good loss! You'll get to the exercise when you are ready. i have a little extra push because of the trip. None of my shorts fit or my suit :(

It helped me last week to cook up a bag of brown rice, beans , meat etc and portion them in the freezer It is hard cooking for the family also. I'm to combine them as much as possible but it is hard for sure. I'm sure with time we will get better at it and it won't be such a challenge.

Ramsfan Thanks. I would love to do the shred once I am healed. yeah for you doing it! it is tough!!! That is a good idea to mix it up a bit!!

Jbdown not that i want anyone else to be confused but.... I am kind of glad i am not the only one. It does seem to get easier though. That list is excellent!!!!!!! is the JM Yoga mostly standing? You'll have to tell us how the ripped in 30 is!

Wichelle - as far as your trip next month - if it were me - I wouldn't worry about it much - you will be on vacation!!!! Enjoy yourself!!! It's only one week (right?) If anything, try to just use CTL as guidelines. Try to stick to the plan a little, there will be alot of healthy options, fruit & stuff. BUT there is also going to be alot of delicious food - don't fight it - you're on VACATION!!!! And there is always the option of following the other plan - your fun day on High Carb days - just one meal. Me personally, I don't get alot of wonderful vacations, I just would eat & drink whatever!!! Where are you going anyway??? And what is the July event?

There is some standing & floor exercises in JM's yoga. You're injured, right? What kind of injury? I don't know what kind of cable service you have, but alot of them offer On-Demand workouts. Check out your menu. Mine has a huge section of yoga workouts, and pilates & anything else you can think of. I'm sure if you surfed thru you could find something friendly to your injury.

Ripped in 30 is great, it's my favorite dvd of hers that I've tried. It has 4 levels & I'm on L2. Getting thru it ok, with only a few modifications. Thinking about moving up to L3 soon, but not sure if I'm ready.

Stick with the meal planning!! It does seem overwhelming at first, but sooner or later you get a system down that works for you as long as you keep trying. I have a family to cook for too & it can be difficult. Lucky for me, my husband will eat anything I give him. My step daughter has recently decided to follow CTL too, so I've been helping her out in understanding it all & I've posted my list on the fridge so she can easily refer to it & she knows what to eat. So far the CTL has really fit well into my life & I love it.

I'm chiming in. :) WTG on the 3 pound loss! As far as the exercise goes, if you physically can't do part of it, don't do it... and perhaps work yourself towards it in the future. My first 3-4 months I did almost no exercise. I'm sure I lost some muscle along with the fat, based on my body fat percentages during that time... But I am okay with that. Why? Because by the time I was 4 months into CTL I had lost around 30 pounds, 2 jeans sizes, and was feeling good enough that I quickly increased my exercise from 0 days a week to 3-6 days a week depending on the week! I'm still not perfect on the exercise front... but I'm getting better about it.

    Baby steps!

A cruise sounds so much fun. Yes, I would put your "fun day" on the ship. Let us know how it goes! Personally, I think I would split the fun day over two "dinners" on two different HC days.... and have the rest of the day be the smaller meals. It would feel like twice the fun for me. LOL! :)

Babeinthemoon~ I figure my best bet is to do what i can. work to get to do it well and forget the rest until the tendon in my foot is healed. I'd be very very happy with the two sizes also even if there was a smidge of muscle loss. You have really done so awesome with this plan!!!! i read some of your blog and really enjoyed it.

What has me thinking I don't really care to break the week up is the really nice meals are at dinner. Doesn't it say in the book if you chose to break them up that the free meals can't be dinner???? We will be on vacation for 12 days but only Sun - Thur are on the ship.

Jbdowns we will be gone 12 days. just one Thur-Sun are on the ship. If I indulge more i can already say it will be champagne with hubby. I was told they would do a decadent dessert and champagne on our anniversary also. That would be Tuesday on the ship.Ah now i am undecided again! :)

We are going to Georgia for a bit, Stopping to see family in Fl for a bit. taking the cruise. going to universal Studios once we are back. hit Atlanta again and then home . it is a 20th anniversary trip with no kids :) July is a crazy 4 day hard rock festival. Hey maybe thinner I wont sweat my butt off! We go every summer and have a big meet up with a bunch of us camping. I'm not going to lie some of us are partying it up for 4 days straight and i will likely not be changing that one for that event. I have been so uncomfortable in my shorts and tanks the last few years due to my weight so thinner is better.

I have a torn tendon in my right foot. I have a very ugly brace and all kind of dodads. if it isn't healed in x amount of time they will be fixing it surgically. i will have to see if Charter has any on demand. I honestly probably have 50 exercise dvds and i used to do them all. Now between being so out of shape and injured I can't use most of them. Baby steps!!!

How awesome your step daughter decided to follow it with you! I have 3 picky eaters and a strictly low carb husband . I'm so glad you are liking it! I do think the organizing is slowly coming together:)

Okay, so this will be another "diet prison" vs "diet framework" rant. Sorry, it can't be helped.

Now, based on the rules that Chris lists in the book for cheat meals, I think I see where he is going with it. He wants you do do the "cheat" meals out of the house. So, if you "cheat" at dinner, where will you be? Most likely at a restaurant. What will you be likely to do? Eat the whole meal... because it is okay since it is a cheat meal.

Well, back up a bit. This is the one rule that I don't follow with CTL. I could care less if my "cheat" meal is a dinner. Why? Because I usually try to eat a balanced meal when I'm out to eat. But, sometimes it can't be helped, especially when I didn't choose the dinenr location. For me a "cheat" meal on a non "funday" would be eating protein, veggies, healthy carb & healthy fat. Usually this ends up looking like a HC meal with an early desert of a small portion of cheesecake.

To look at you taking your Cruise from a Diet Prison view point: Sorry it sucks, but you can't have your fun meal at dinner time, because that's what the book says. No ifs ands or buts. Sorry but that's the way it is.

Bwahahahaha! You kidding me? I'm on this "diet" for a lifetime... and it won't hold me prisoner.

So, I'd instead, plan for your cruise with the mindset of a "diet framework." I've never been on a cruise, so I don't know if it is possible or not, but I'd see if you can at minimum get a copy of the menus available. See if you can plan out some day time food options that are super uber healthy, but still let you "live a little."

Then, at dinner, eat your main meal like it was a regular meal, and allow your self either "2 bites" of each item that is not a part of the "diet," or one desert. Or, through all caution to the wind and say, who cares! I'm on vacation. I'm allowed one meal to play. Especially if I stayed "on plan" for the rest of the day.

I agree with Babeinthemoon - the theory of diet prison vs diet framework. I'm also looking at CTL as guidelines, or framework. As of now, I am trying diligently to follow the plan's specifics just because I'm new to this & I want to see some results as soon as possible (keeping in mind this is not an easy over night thing) but, after I get closer to my goal my intentions are to follow it long term as guidelines & not as a strict diet. If I was going on vacation - it would not be much of a delima for me!!! I would enjoy myself to the fullest - not to say I would go overboard in indulging - but I certainly wouldn't deprive myself.

I was in Jamaica on a resort last year & while I certainly had my fill of drinks & decadent meals, I also enjoyed alot of healthy options that were available. Tons of gorgeous fresh fruit options, granola & cereals for breakfast, they had a lot of multi-grain bread options. I've never been on a cruise, but on a resort, there was always awesome buffets to pick & chose from.

All that being said - if you are devoted enough to follow CTL more strictly while on vacation, more power to you!! I certainly wouldn't fault you for that!!! And by the way, happy anniversary!!! It really sounds like you have the vacation of a life time planned out!!! I'd have to say I'm a little jealous. My first anniversay is coming up in May, no plans as of yet. Probably can't afford anything extravagant - we spent a chunk of cash last year going to Jamaica to get married!!!

I have a lot to ponder with the vacation thing. I need to think about exactly how important everything is to me, diet prison vs structure etc. It is easy to think I want to do everything right to a T now since I am on a roll losing. I could very well have my mind made up and change it 20 more times :)

I took the cheat meal if you did the few during the week wasn't dinner because you wouldn't burn the carbs off late at night. I didn't read that. i just assumed to be honest. You can pretty much get anything you want to eat on a ship 24/7. Besides that time of the month ( see free meal last sat!) I am not much of a sweets eater. I have a fat tooth instead of a sweet tooth.

JB oh your wedding/honeymoon sounded grand! We didnt take a honeymoon but took a one year to Vegas. This for our 20th is the only trip without the kids besides an overnight er to a suite etc.. I'm excited!
