Unexpected baby

Options
I am having my fourth baby unexpectedly.. There is a six year gap from my last one and I had just given away all baby clothes, toys and all other stuff last summer. Since finding out we're expecting we have had to get a larger vehicle (suv instead of our Honda civic five seater), we are planning to renovate our basement to add more bedrooms.. We need to either get our baby clothes back (lol!) from my sister and keep swapping them back and forth or get new (probably used) ones... Gosh I feel overwhelmed. I still can't really believe I am pregnant other then feeling super tired, bloated at night, nausea, and the occasional little twitch in my tummy area :).

When I first got pregnant I thought I had missed my period because I was working out so hard and had lost 24 lb in 2.5 months eating clean and pushing myself to the limit with exercise every day.. My last period prior to pregnancy was almost non-existant and although on time it only lasted 2 days. So the next month when I just had some light spotting I wrote it off as exercise did it lol... To be safe I took a pregnancy test that came back negative. Just in case something was wrong with me I made a dr's appointment because prior to this I had been suffering from Menorrhagia (such heavy flow that I felt like fainting during my periods).

The dr. also did a pregnancy test and to my shock it was positive! Lol I must have said "are you sure?" about ten times haha!

My husband was so shocked too :). Now we are getting used to the idea but it is still surreal at times :)

Did you plan to become pregnant or are you feeling as unprepared as we are?

Our stories are very similar! I found out (very unexpectedly) that I was pregnant with our fourth when I was 11 weeks. I had lost over 60 lbs, and had actually still gotten a light period because I was on birth control to regulate my cycle. I was having right sided pain that I though might be an ovarian cyst, so I went for an ultrasound, and was pregnant! The pain turned out to be round ligament pain! We are currently remodeling our house to expand for another bedroom, my hubby surprised me with a Suburban for Christmas, and now that the shock has worn off, I am working on getting ready for the baby! I am currently 28 weeks pregnant with a boy (I already have 2 girls and one boy). Even though my youngest only just turned two, we also got rid of all of our stuff because we thought that we were done.... the icing on the cake is that my husband had a failed vasectomy! Feel free to add me!

We had been trying for a while, so I can't say this was TOTALLY unplanned. However, I didn't find out I was pregnant until my first appointment to start fertility testing. Lo and behold, I was pregnant anyway.

My doctor told me my uterus was slightly swollen during the pelvic exam and ran a blood test. I ran home and did 3 pee tests, all positive.

Congrats on your baby though! I'm sure once the stress and shock wears off you'll feel great about your new addition to the family :)

I've had 2 completely unplanned pregnancies. Well, 1, really. My 18 month old we weren't really trying for, but we didn't prevent her either. After I had her, I had the Essure procedure done, and it failed. I didn't go in to get the follow-up x-ray done either, so that's my fault. I just had my 4th child and we are having alot of the same issues you are. As soon as I get my income tax returns in, I have to get a bigger vehicle. I want to keep my current one for me to use going to and from work and DH can use the van since he watches the kiddos.

Anyways, with both of my last 2 pregnancies, I didn't actually know I was pregnant until the Second Trimester. Alot of women think that's strange, but I hadn't had my cycle in months before conceiving with either of them. I don't get morning sickness either, just really bad heartburn. And with this most recent pregnancy, we were definitely floored. It took us both a couple of months before we were ok with it. And we were fighting over her name until the day she was born.

For us it was both. I'd stopped taking the pill in early 2011 before a 30-day trip for work and we were both of the midset that we weren't going to actively try, but we were going to stop preventing it so when it happened, it happened. Between work trips for both of us, relocation to another state for our job followed by more work trips, in May there was a week were it seemed like we were both on the same wave length, but never spoke about it. You could actually consider it our first real attempt to get pregnant and it was at the right time of month too. Lo and behold, "first time" was the charm. I'm due in less than 3 weeks and we couldn't be more excited! Granted we did have to give up our home office to become the nursery lol.

    Hello,
This is an unexpected pregnancy, as was our 4 year old daughter (yes, you would have thought we could have figured out how that happens). With our daughter I was on the pill and had an operation, they gave me antibiotics during the operation (no one ever told me) which stopped the birth control from working. I was only 23 at the time and it wasn't in my 5 year plan but we got used to the idea and ended up happily married.
When she was 2.5 we started trying again and had 5 miscarriages over 16 months. I was eventually diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder and told I would need to be on blood thinners to sustain a pregnancy. I started taking them to stop the bad headaches I had that were a side effect of the disorder but we put baby making on hold because I had got into a very competitive midwifery degree course plus emotionally I was shattered after 5 miscarriages. So precautions were taken and I was very suprised to find myself 5 weeks pregnant in November, I thought my period was late as the blood thinners I take can delay ovulation. Well the blood thinners kept the pregnancy going until I could see a specialist and start taking stronger injectable blood thinners, and here we are nearly 15 weeks and everything looks good. I managed to defer that course until next February, so everything has worked out and we are finally feeling excited.
Funny to see so many other 'suprises' on the board, but I know they will all be valuable additions.

When I was 34, one year after my second child was born, I had emergency surgery to remove an infected ovary. I was told at the time that my other ovary wasn't viable and I should be happy with the family I had. We were happy and weren't planning to have another anyway. Well, surprise! That other ovary was viable. I will be 37 when my third boy is born. It took some time to get over the shock, but we are very happy and my boys couldn't be more excited!

We also gave away our baby stuff years ago. Well, here's to starting over!

Both of my babies were unexpected. I was off birth control for one month when we conceived the first one and I had an IUD with this current pregnancy. It definitely changed plans--I was supposed to re-locate for work and that got cancelled--job is kind of in limbo right now. I never know what's going to happen next!

I am currently 5 weeks pregnancy, and although this was planned - it was definitely UNEXPECTED! I'm actually still getting used to the idea. Let me explain.

I had my first (and currently, only) son 6 years ago, while a sophomore. Me and my hubby started dating during the pregnancy (LOL - not quite the way it's supposed to happen, but hey!) and eventually got married earlier this year (we wanted to finish school, etc.) Once we graduated, our son was already 4 years old and we had already decided that we didn't want to wait an extremely long time to have another child. Long story short, we decided to have no more kids (I had a really hard time letting it go, as I had always wanted a baby girl, but eventually, I got over it and saw his logic). It was pretty much a done deal after that. Every time a friend, family member, whomever asked if we were having more (or even told us we SHOULD), we'd automatically say no. Simple as that.

Fast forward to December of last year. We took our 6 YEAR OLD SON to an all classmate's birthday party. I'm strolling about the fun center and walk up to hubby as he's leaning again a play gate deep in thought. I ask, 'What are you thinking so hard about, babe?". He responds......"I was just thinking.......if we only have one child, we won't have that many grandchildren....."

    My face --> :indifferent: :indifferent:

I'm like wait....WHAT???? After all of those arguments and conversations and tears.......and a FREAKING BDAY PARTY IS ALL IT TOOK??!?!?! LOL

Anywhoo - we forgot to bring condoms during Christmas travel (we've always used them - guess we just got comfortable) and ended up having sex anyway....well...we had an accident. His response - "Oh well.....I guess we'll start trying now." lol

We started trying during the holidays and on the way back at the beginning of the year, I got a MEAN virus. At first, I thought I was pregnant, because I was extremely nauseous! But, I took a test, and it came back negative.

Well.....still...call it intuition - I still 'felt' like I was pregnant. Plus, I knew my period was due the next week (was unsure of the exact date and still am, actually), so I decided to wait and see. Well, I waited.

Monday, I took another test...actually 2. BOTH POSITIVE - YAYYYY! But, I had been drinking LOTS of water that day and I took the tests that night, so to be sure, I waited until the morning and took another ClearBlue (the others were store-brand). Yep...that was positive, too.

I am STILL absolutely reeling at the fact that I got pregnant THAT fast! My coworkers that I am close with now call me 'Fertile Myrtle'.

    LOL.
