Overweight because of disobedience to God

I just joined MFP and I like the encouragement that I have found in this group. I believe that I should not be overweight if I am obedient, but I am. Food is God's gift to us and I believe it is meant for our enjoyment, but I so want to learn to practice self-control. It is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:23). I believe that if I am able to be obey this command, not only will I achieve my weight goals, but also some of my elusive spiritual goals. I really don't want becoming healthy and fit to be ends in themselves. I find that focusing on my body can easily become idolatry. I long to be free. Paul said: "You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh..." (Galatians 5:13). He also speaks of excessive indulgence in sensual pleases in verse 19. Thanks for your prayers and your encouragement.

  • Amen Sister! I commend you for wanting to be obedient to God with your diet... The Lord has shown me and others that a healthy diet is a holy diet but also that He doesn't shame or condemn us when we make mistakes... That is just His nature! Also, in Matthew 25 it says that in the last-days some will be "...eating, drinking & giving in marriage until the flood comes and takes them all away." It is important that we be healthy and in shape as we are living in the end-times... God bless you!
