Woo Hoo Team! We did it! We are already into week 4! I am excited to start a fresh week with you, so let's get busy with a brand new challenge!! Ready?.......
1
I want us to challenge ourselves to prepare our own foods this week (avoid eating out as much as possible). I know this will take some planning but the payoff will be worth the efforts. Restaurant food is often prepared with much more sodium, msg and ingredients we would never prepare our own food with. Even when ordering the restaurant's healthier options, you are at the mercy off the cooks. Studies have shown over and over again that there can be many more calories and much more fat in your "healthy order" because each order varies so much depending on how the cook prepared it. If you already avoid restaurant foods, I want you to challenge yourself to eat as clean as possible. This means whole, unprocessed foods. Go for the fresh fruits, veggies, lean meats, nuts and so on. Avoid the boxed items and read those labels to watch for any ingredients you may not recognize.
2---- For the second part of our challenge I want us to pay it forward. I feel we are so blessed to have MFP and our friends on here. Let's spread the joy! There are many ways we can do this. Here are a few examples:
- ask a friend to join you on a walk
- take a healthy food item to work or to a neighbor to share
- give someone at the gym a compliment to let them know you notice their healthy efforts
- tell someone about MFP and how it is FREE
Let's see how many times we can pay if forward this week! Please share with us throughout the week how your food efforts are going and what you are doing to pay if forward. You all rock on participating in our challenges. Let's inspire each other!

Mary I love this challenge the last time I ate mostly whole foods I had my best weight loss, and letting people we know and don't know about MFP is wonderful, this morning at the gym I told someone about MFP and they want to check it out.
This morning I weighed in at 177 that is the lowest I have been in 25 1/2 years that was before my son was born and he is 25 years now. I have another 17 pounds to reach my wedding weight.:bigsmile:0 -
I paid it forward today by emailing my brother and sister-in law and letting them know about MFP. I also plan to watch for someone working hard at Spin class tonight and letting them know that I think they are doing great.
No eating out either. (A challenge for me)!0 -

I'm so proud of you Carrie! The lowest weight in 25 years? That's amazing! Awesome job telling someone about MFP! My trainer said MFP is one of the best sites he knows.0 -
Hi guys! I just wanted to let you know that it went really well at Spinning with my paying it forward. I started a conversation with the lady next to me and told her that her leg muscles are showing all her hard work. Hopefully it will help to motivate her even more knowing that her hard work got noticed. Think, think, think everybody.... what are you going to do this week to share the happiness of health with someone?0

I had a horrible day of eating!   I think it is because I didn't sleep much last night and I was actually tired and not hungry but ate because I couldn't nap. Grrr... New day tomorrow.
I did better on the paying it forwards part. My daughter's friend was feeling down and about to give into a whole box of chocolates. I reminded her of how awesome she was when I saw her running at the gym last night and encouraged her to come play racquetball with me and my son. I also inspired my son to work on his exercise as I registered him for a color run we are doing together in August and let him know that tomorrow I am ordering him and I matching color run t-shirts.0 -
I am eating whole and clean foods for snacks, and as clean as I can at meals. I am eating lots of vegetables, fruits, lean meats and whole grains.
Yesterday my mom called and wants me to show her how to use MFP next time I'm up, and Brittany liked our ab challenge that we did last week so much that she asked for the web site, she already is on MFP.
I also gave both of them a food scale to help them in their journey to get healthy and lose weigh..
We now have my husband and my son on too. my husband is down 7 lbs and my son is down 10 lbs and they started the earlier this month.
I started a kettlebell workout for the first time and boy is it a workout, my elderly friend gave it to me for my B-day.
Have a wonderful and blessed day!0 -
I love how you are passing along the gift of good health to so many of your family members Carrie! It has to be very inspiring to them to see your great progress as well! I like your food plan too. You do wonderful eating whole healthy foods!:flowerforyou:0

I wanted to share this recent interview with Jillian Michaels. :flowerforyou:
Jillian shares two tips that "will get you through anything you want to achieve." First, write down all the reasons you want to change. "This will inspire you," she explains. "The second part is if you think you're able - then you will be. So educate yourself. People will do anything that they think is worth it and if they think they're able."
For those who were losing weight steadily and think they've now hit a plateau, Jillian says the problem is often fluid fluctuation or your metabolism adjusting, which shouldn't last longer than a week. "You probably stopped counting calories, you probably haven't been working out as intensely as long, you haven't been mixing up your routine," she suggests. "And in my experience on Biggest Loser I can usually sail through a season with maybe one bad week and these guys are losing hundreds of pounds, so I don't really believe them anymore."0 -
Ohhh... Just found this too and wanted to share with the group. I have seen many posts on the community board wondering what kind calories and such the Biggest Loser contestants eat. I found this interview that answered that.
What type of diet do the Biggest Loser contestants follow?
Calorie levels are individualized for each person, but in general we rarely go below 1,200 or above 2,400 calories per day. With the exception of skim milk, most of the calories come from food instead of beverages because food is more filling than drinks. The food selection is based on nutrient-rich foods that provide good nutrition, fiber, and meal satisfaction for the least number of calories.
Here is the nutritional breakdown of the diet they follow:
45% of calories from healthy, whole-grain carbs.
30% of calories from lean protein from chicken, turkey, dairy.
25% of calories from healthy fats like olive oil, nuts, seeds, and avocado.
3 meals plus 2 snacks daily.
4 cups of fruits and vegetables daily.
When contestants are hungry or tired, we reevaluate the food budget to make sure they are getting enough food to fuel their activities and that the combination of foods is satisfying. In fact, at times we have trouble getting them to eat all their calories. On the flip side, when the scale gets stuck, we might cut back on the grains.0 -
I am not doing so well with the not eating out thing. How are you guys doing with either not eating out or clean eating?
Today I paid it forward by encouraging my husband to join in the color run that my son and I have planned for August. I told him we could walk it briskly (my husband has a heart condition so jogging it is out) and told him we could save money and sign up as a team. He says he will do it with us!:happy:0 -
I am proud to say that even though I was REALLY tired after work today I did not eat out. I was very tempted to get pizza but instead stopped at the store and picked up some items to make a salad.
I paid it forward today by giving a friend a pedometer.0 -
I saw a woman that worked at the woman's expo last year, she looked like she had lossed a lot of weight ,so I told her so and I found out that she has lost 30 lbs. I told her to keep up the nice work that she was doing and that I would see her next year.0

That really brightened her spirits Carrie.. I could see it in her face. Great job! You did oh so awesome with yourself at the expo too!0 -
Didn't eat to clean yesterday, but today I didn't do to bad. I talked to my sister en-law about MFP today and she is going to look at the web site, right now she is recovering from a fall [ she had the flu and passed out and has badly injured her left foot], no insurance and it may be broken. I told her that she should join and put in no exercise and start and add exercise when she is healed. Not sure if she will or not?0
