February Book?

Hi, everyone. I'm just wondering if anyone is interested in continuing another month. It's OK with me if no one wants to continue, but I don't want to just fade away without checking in; I guess I like closure.

My observation about this group is that we aren't really reading the books together and we are not connecting. I think if we continue, we may want to check in with each other more often. Maybe we could share opinions or observations about the book/author?

I finished Penumbra a few weeks ago, and have read 2 other books since then. If there's a book someone wants to read together, I'll participate.

I still think it is a fun idea to exchange views about books. But the responses seem few and far between. I never received the book from the library (still waiting) and so I could not participate. Not having an ereader , I rely on the library and my used book store for reads.
If we could select a book that is easier to get my hands on I am ready to participate.

Thanks for asking. I, also, like conclusions.

I'm happy to get the books that are available in the library. I'm wondering ... if very few members respond to this topic, we could try posting something in the Community about it; or we could start a new group to attract different people. Does anyone from the group send you emails?

Nope on the emails. Although scattered thoughts (guess he was supposed to be group leader) did send an email at beginning of the month. I don't know how to move on, if you don't hear from others. I think people just get busy with diet and life and forget to keep up. At times, I am just as bad with consistency. I think having book friend is great as I have a lot of weight to lose and don't want just to be consumed with measuring, weighing and exercising.

Look forward to hearing from you.

I couldn't agree with you more - it's nice to take a break from thinking about the weight loss. I wouldn't really know how to spark interest in the group, and I probably wouldn't have the time to steer a large group of people. In its short lifetime, this group has already had 2 leaders, so I know it can't be easy. But we could continue; Is there something you would like to read in February? I'll join you. My book suggestion was chosen in January so it's your turn!

I just finished the Stedman book...could not put it down!!! Keep it in mind for the future. Okay on Very Valentine. Looks like just the two of us are left. I will begin reading this weekend. Do we want to just comment as we go along?

Yep. I'll keep you up to date on what page or chapter I'm on. Maybe I'll find a certain phrase or sentence that I really like and share it; or an experience the character has that I've also had; or whatever seems relevant to this book once I start reading it. I'm just shooting from the hip; how does this sound to you?

Me too...I am enjoying it so far. A pleasant break after the intense read of Light Between the Oceans. I thought the wedding scene was hysterical and wouldn't you have hated to be at that table. Valentine describes herself as "the funny one" , I wonder how her outlook will affect her decisions. So far, I am thinking she is selling herself short. But we will see. I have read one other book by this Trigiani and it is all about family. And so far she is really describing them well.

Ok I started Very Valentine today. Its a little less drama than I would like but hopeful it will pick up speed!
I just finished the part where she found out her grandma owes on the mortgage.

I have another 7 day loaner that is called NANO by Robin Cook; more of a fiction medical thriller. I will be reading both at once!

I am still reading it but we can discuss it as I get it done if you'd like!

You're finished! I'm only on page 50. I'm so impressed with her descriptions; I just love the way she writes. So, I've been going back over it and rereading some things just to enjoy the pictures she evokes. It looks like Valentine is going to have an interesting love interest, and maybe her grandmother, too.

BTW, I'm sorry I've been AWOL. I've been sick.

Sorry you have not been feeling well. Feel better. I agree the degree of detail is really good. I just could not stop reading last weekend. I have ordered the second book Brava Valentine I want to see where this winds up. I won't say more until you finish.

That's so funny! I was thinking of reading the second one, too. I think it's a trilogy. I really liked the way she interacted with her ex-boyfriend at the swanky party. I like her confidence. Oh! and the church scene with the shoe was so unexpected!

I am still reading it too. It takes me a long time to read all those detailed descriptions of everything too. Yes love interests abound! I will say no more!!!

I only have about 30 pages to go! I'll jump in with the discussion when I'm done. I'm at the part where Valentine has just returned to NYC from Capri and things seem awkward between her and Roman on the ride home from the airport.

Yes, I admire her for giving him the benefit of the doubt. She is a kind person; we need more kind people in this world. I really like her attitude - this Cinderella is going to make her own shoes and not cram herself into someone else's. Great advice, don't you think? I'm finished with this book and would love to read the next one. But, it's someone else's turn to pick a book for March. Does anyone have any suggestions?
