Sugar -- A Drug??

Has anybody read anything about this or experienced this?? It seems to have the exact same effect on me ( but it's legal :) )).
I am dealing with this " need " and boy it is tough... Has anybody overcome this kind of problem?? It seems to be physical and not just a ' mental ' issue. Any thoughts.. ? Thanks

    I read something.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_addiction

I was a sugar / carb junkie, big time. I found the only way to quit craving my Mtn Dew was to NEVER drink it.
My old way of eating was MAYBE 5% protein and the rest carbs and fat. The one thing I know about sugar is that eating it just makes you want more. Sounds like a drug to me!

Yes, that's my point. I'll check out what you found & try again the 'cold turkey' :)
    Thanks, SR

I've cut out a bunch of things from my diet as part of a 3 week experiment. I am two weeks in at this point. Let's see if I can remember the whole list: no wheat, dairy, sugar, processed foods, soy, corn... which leaves me with meat, fruit, vegetables, beans, grains other than wheat.

Anyway, I honestly can't say I feel all that much better, but I do think it's made a significant difference when it comes to food cravings. I had a mild, temporary desire for a giant pile of pasta last night, but it was totally short lived. I have been finding it pretty easy to turn up my nose at candy, for instance, and instead find myself happily reaching for an orange for dessert.

Other people I know who have cut sugar and processed foods out of their diets tell me that when they go back and have dessert or something sugary, it tastes TOO sweet and makes them feel gross.

I know the info I shared is only anecdotal, but hopefully it gives you some hope that overcoming your cravings can be done!
