Noticed something funny today...

Why do people assume that if you're a woman and you have cancer that it's breast cancer? It happened again at the store today. I was picking up a chemo prescription ($2700 for 2 weeks... ugh... but that's another post!) and started talking to another customer. Her eyes immediately looked at my chest when she found out I had cancer! It happens all the time. Anyone else notice that?

It happens to me all the time but then I had Breast Cancer. I think people assume because of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and that sort of thing.
  • I agree with you. They assume breast. My problem is people do not listen. I rarely share with people that I have multiple myeloma. They assume I said melanoma. I dont bother to correct them.

Happened to me as well! One of my friends who didn't get the whole scoop commented on how remarkable my breasts looked for having gone through surgery. I took the compliment then kindly explained that I actually had cervical cancer!
  • I think it's a combo of the amount of breastcancer awareness and the (sad) fact that it is so common.
8 our of 10 people I've shared a room with when getting my treatment had breast cancer.
